Pratt's Primary Corner
Weekly Update- March 2, 2018
Week at a Glance
Math- We've continued exploring multiplication & division through rich tasks. Students are doing very well with it and are doing a great job showing their thinking.
Science- Our E4Tech lessons have been super engaging and have us wondering all kinds of things! Today we figured out ways that work to create a circuit to light a light bulb and ways that don't work.
Genius Hour- We started a new Genius Hour project this week. We started off by watching a Mystery Doug video! Mystery Doug is a website where students submit "wonderings," and Doug answers the questions. This generated many questions within ourselves and we had fun discussing these questions. Next week students will choose a new topic and start generating questions.
A few things to know about Prodigy:
- Students work at their own level (so don't help them too much or the questions will become too difficult)
- Incorrect answers don't count toward total questions answered (so they don't want to rush through- quality over quantity)
- You can still make sure they're showing their thinking by having them use scrap paper to solve the problems
- It will definitely help with MAP prep, and I'm finding it has also helped student with math fact fluency. :)
If you have any questions please let me know!
We will be taking the math MAP test on Tuesday March 13th.
We will be taking the reading MAP test on Wednesday March 21st
If you signed up for the Monday slot from 6:15-6:30, please email me to let me know who you are... someone accidentally typed in my name instead of their own.
We will be having our spring round of Parent/Teacher conferences. These are not required. If you feel that you do not need a conference and you have no concerns about your child, you do not need to sign up. With that being said, I am more than happy to meet with you even if you have no concerns.
