CSD Community Parent Language Network Opportunity

Cambrian School District would like to provide families the opportunity to connect with other families in the Cambrian School District community who share a common primary language other than English. Please fill out this brief survey to assist us in creating Cambrian School Community Language Network.

What does it mean to form a parent network?

Forming a network means that you decide to come together as a group of people with a common primary home language and many diverse skills, talents, and interests who are united by a common interest — improving your children’s education. It also means that you find ways to stay in touch, support each other, and partner with our schools and district to help improve our programs and services for English learners.

If you are interested in creating, joining, or learning more about the CSD School Community Parent Language Network, please complete the survey below.

English Language Proficiency Assessment for CA (ELPAC)

Every year, school districts in California are required to administer the ELPAC for students who have languages other than English. There are two (2) versions of the ELPAC:

1. The Initial ELPAC - The Initial ELPAC is to be administered for initial identification purposes within 30 calendar days of first enrollment to a pupil whose primary language is other than English, as determined by the Home Language Survey and who has not previously been assessed for English language proficiency in a California public school in kindergarten – grade 12.

2. The Summative ELPAC - The Summative ELPAC is given only to students who have previously been identified as English learners (EL students) based upon Initial ELPAC results. The Summative ELPAC measures how well they are progressing with English development in each of the four domains.

For more information about the ELPAC and how to support your child, please refer to the following website:

  • ELPAC Starting Smarter website
The Starting Smarter websites help parents understand student scores and reports, view sample test questions, and provide additional free resources to support their child’s learning.

Kidappolis: School Edition

Kidappolis: School Edition is an app that provides interactive, caregiver-led early learning opportunities. With Kidappolis, caregivers walk children ages 2-10 through a series of mini skill assessments to identify the child’s primary areas of need. They receive personalized, curated app recommendations that foster specific early learning, literacy, and numeracy goals. Caregivers receive an easy-to-use playlist of on- and offline learning activities that build their child's confidence, so families can enjoy bonding while learning together. Cambrian has partnered with Litlab (https://www.litlab.org/kidappolis) to provide free access to Kidappolis.
