PGUSD Back to School Traffic and Safety Reminders:
â–ª Anyone who crosses the street must only do so in painted crosswalks. Please obey the crossing guards and any pedestrian signals, traffic lights, etc.
â–ª When a crossing guard is not present at the crosswalk, students should either push the button near the pedestrian sign to trigger the warning lights, or look both ways prior to crossing the street.
â–ª Avoid crossing at mid-block locations; use crosswalks.
â–ª Crossing guards are present at several intersections to assist with safety. Please listen to and obey their instructions.
â–ª Be aware of your surroundings. Students should seek to make eye contact with drivers and crossing guards when crossing streets and intersections. Never assume that you are seen.
â–ª Please do not use cell phones or other electronic devices while you are driving or walking. Even a moment when your eyes are not on the road or on an oncoming car can make a big difference.
â–ª Please drive slowly and mind all stop signs/traffic lights. Leave a few minutes early, when possible.
▪ Each of our schools have specific traffic procedures and parking restrictions that are enforced by the police. We encourage you to review each school’s procedures on the district and school websites.
â–ª Remember, children are smaller than adults and less visible to motorists; they are easily hidden behind parked vehicles, trees, shrubs, etc.
â–ª Children have difficulty judging distance and the speed of oncoming traffic; they are unable to accurately predict if it is safe to cross. It is especially difficult for children to judge the arrival time of traffic coming from two directions at once
and determine if a particular gap in traffic will provide them sufficient time to cross the street. This is why children are inclined to run across the street.
▪ Children do not naturally use their peripheral vision. Children can be taught to use their peripheral vision when searching for traffic, however, children in grades K–3 have slower reaction times than older children and adults in identifying relevant objects in their peripheral vision.
When Driving to and From School
Drivers should always:
• Slow down and obey all traffic laws and speed limits, both in school zones and in neighborhoods surrounding the school.
• Comply with individual school drop-off and pick-up procedures for the safety of all children accessing the school. Please refer to district and site websites for drop-off and pick- up procedures.
• Avoid double parking or stopping on crosswalks to let children out of the car. Double parking will block visibility for other children and other motorists. Visibility is further reduced during the rain and fog seasons when condensation forms on car windows.
• Avoid loading or unloading children at locations across the street from the school. This forces students to unnecessarily cross busy streets—often mid-block rather than at a crosswalk.
• Prepare to stop for a school bus when overhead yellow lights are flashing. Drive with caution when you see yellow hazard warning lights are flashing on a moving or stopped bus.
• Stop for a school bus with its red overhead lights flashing, regardless of the direction from which the driver is approaching unless the road is a divided highway. Drivers must not proceed until the school bus resumes motion and the red lights stop flashing, or until signaled by the school bus driver to proceed.
• Watch for children walking or bicycling (both on the and on the sidewalks) in areas near a school.
• Watch for children playing and gathering near bus stops. Watch for children arriving late for the bus, who may dart into the street without looking for traffic.
• Watch for children walking or biking to school when backing out of a driveway or leaving a garage.

Attached Forms in English and Spanish (below):
- Consent & Release form (this is mandatory for each participant)
Please review the following vaccine eligibility and billing information.
Eligibility
- Flu: please refer to Who Needs a Flu Vaccine | CDC
- COVID-19: COVID-19 Vaccine Boosters | CDC
Current CDC recommendation for Flu vaccines
- Adults, especially those 65 years and older, should generally NOT get vaccinated early (in July or August) because protection may decrease over time, but early vaccination can be considered for any person who is unable to return at a later time to be vaccinated.
- Children can get vaccinated as soon as the Flu vaccine becomes available, even if this is in July or August. Some children need two doses of flu vaccine. For those children, it is recommended to get the first dose as soon as the vaccine is available, because the second dose needs to be given at least 4 weeks after the first.
- Early vaccination can also be considered for people who are in the third trimester of pregnancy, because this can help protect their infants during the first months of life (when they are too young to be vaccinated)
Billing agreement
- All participants should bring their medical, prescription and Medicare part B card to clinic
- Participants uninsured or not covered
- COVID-19 Vaccine is FREE to all eligible participants regardless of insurance status
- Flu vaccine: Safeway will not be able to bill Flu vaccines for Kaiser or Medi-cal for people under 18 yrs old except for COVID-19 vaccines. Kaiser members must go to Kaiser to get their flu vaccines for free. Medi-Cal (for people under 18 years old ) must go to their primary care doctor to get their flu vaccine for free.
- The cost of the flu vaccine at our event for people not insured or covered is $40 for Regular flu vaccine and $70 for senior dose flu vaccine
- We will accept check and credit card
- COVID-19 Rapid Antigen Test Kits
- Eligible participants can receive free test kits per month with certain insurance plans
Thank you very much, and have a wonderful weekend!
Katrina

FOOD SERVICES
Breakfast and lunch are free for all students! Each student is offered one free breakfast meal and one free lunch meal every school day. To ensure the student is receiving a complete meal, the student must take a fruit, vegetable, and/or juice with their meal. If they do not wish to consume it, they may leave it on the "share table or basket" for any other student to enjoy. For up-to-date information on our department and for menus, please visit our website.
Memorizing student's 6-Digit Student ID Number
We are required to utilize our Point of Sales system to maintain a record of students dining with us. To ensure the serving lines move along smoothly, we encourage families to work with their children to learn and remember their 6-digit Student ID number. This number is inputted into our Point of Sales when the student receives their meal.
Food Service Substitutes - we are hiring!
We are looking for subs! If you are interested in substitute positions with Food Services, please visit here.

Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP)
The ACP provides eligible households up to $30 a month, or $75 a month for households living on tribal lands, toward their internet bills, as well as a one-time discount of up to $100 to purchase a laptop, desktop computer, or tablet.
All households with a child who was approved to receive free or reduced-price school meals under the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) or the School Breakfast Program (SBP), within the last 12 months are eligible for ACP benefits. Households are also eligible if a member of a household participates in certain federal benefit programs—including, among others, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, Medicaid, and Federal Public Housing Assistance.
Households may apply for the ACP via GetInternet.gov or can call 877-384-2575. NSLP and SBP households applying directly through the ACP website may need to show documentation proving their current participation in the NSLP and SBP if their eligibility cannot be confirmed with other personal identifying information. This may include presenting the household’s school meals approval letter or other current official documentation. If this letter is needed, please contact School Nutrition Director, Stephanie Lip at slip@pgusd.org.
