Avilla Elementary Family Newsletter
January 2021
Welcome 2021!
Looking back at the past several months it is refreshing to be celebrating a new year. Students and staff are back in full swing with our school days and we are doing our best to maintain safety and continue to conduct school to the best of our abilities. Thank you all for your continued support with the challenging protocols in place.
Be on the lookout in the near future for more information regarding Kindergarten and preschool interest for the 2021-22 school year. We are working on our plans for both of these groups of incoming students and will share that across our website and various social media platforms when more information is available.
As always, contact me with positive feedback and any concerns that I can help you with.

Book Fees
Below are a few pictures of our Kindergarten students using our new golf curriculum in PE. You won't notice any golf clubs in these pictures. These fundamental skills and basic understanding of aiming and getting a ball close to a targeted location must come first.
Scholastic Book Fair Coming to Avilla
Our book fair dates are February 22 - March 3. We will be providing specific shopping dates per grade level soon.
School Nurse COVID Information
As we continue to navigate our new COVID world, I want to send some reminders.
1. If your child(ren) is ill with COVID symptoms, please keep them home. Symptoms include as few as one of the following: loss of taste and smell, cough, headache, achy body, fever, as well as others.
2. If anyone in the household is testing for COVID, please keep your child(ren) home until results are received. Contact the school to notify them of the pending test.
3. If your child(ren) has been a close contact to someone that has tested positive for COVID, please keep them home and contact the school nurse for further guidance.
Thank you for all that you are doing to help keep our students healthy!
Safety Team News
Avilla has recently started a Student Safety Team. Four students from grades 3, 4, and 5 have been asked to join our team! They meet with Mrs. Ruse once a month. Third graders have been working on safety procedures in the cafeteria. Fourth graders have been working on developing gaga pit rules for the playground. Lastly, fifth graders have been working on posters to promote safety in the hallways. We are all proud of the work they are doing to keep our school safe!
PTO Meeting
Mask Reminder
We are always striving to keep students safe. During this time, masks are mandated on the bus for safety. If students are not wearing masks on the bus, the bus driver and school may be communicating that to you. Thanks for continuing to help us keep everyone safe!
Car Line Procedures
- Arriving early and waiting will most likely take more of your time than showing up closer to our doors open and dismissal time. We need everyone to show up closer to our advertised times in order to lessen traffic on streets close to the school.
- Preschool parents should be the only people in our car line before 2:30. Our preschool parents pick up around 2:10 and have been blocked by people waiting for our 2:45 dismissal. Please help us by keeping the car line open for preschool pickup. These students need the most help with car pickup and a clear line really helps.
- Please do not park your car and walk across the street to greet your child. When you remain in your car it helps us to worry less about pedestrians and takes less time to get students to where they need to be.
