From the desk of Our Proud Principal
Greetings Trojan Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to partner with you and your student this year at Ferndale Middle School. I am honored to begin my first full year at FMS. We’ve spent the summer prepping and planning for the best year ever! As principal, I am dedicated to making sure our staff and students strive to be their best daily. With that in mind, this year we’ve set the expectation that our school will operate with PRIDE. Our acronym, PRIDE, stands for positive attitude, respect, integrity, dependability, and excellence in all we do.
Our students have been learning about PRIDE and will continue to be taught about what it means to operate with PRIDE throughout our school building. Please assist us by to talking with your student(s) about being their best and striving for success. We know our students are phenomenal scholars and leaders and can’t wait to give them more opportunities to shine. Thank you again for your support. Please follow us on Facebook and Twitter for more updates and information.
6th Grade
We had an amazing first two weeks of school. I am so proud to serve the 6th grade community this year. Please remember in order to be the best you must be Excellent in EVERYTHING you do. Study your schedules and do your absolute best in every class. You are a reflection of the great things happening in 6th grade. Let's make this a great year. I want you all to remember that you can do anything you put your mind to. Happy Birthday to all of you that had August or summer birthdays. Please make sure you remember the dress code and code conduct. Again, we are the best so let's show the Ferndale community they have some tough competition.

It will be our long-term goal to inform all parents regarding the great things that Ferndale offers. Our slogan for the year is “Work Like a Champion!” All that we do this year will be to support students into performing like champions. Please take this time to reach out to your student’s teachers and become familiar with assignments and tutoring schedules for their classes.

IB News and Updates
My Name is Tammy Taylor Patterson, I am the IB Coordinator at Ferndale Middle School for 2019-2020 school year. This quarter, we will be covering the universal attributes of the IB Learner Profile. We aim to develop a culture, where the attributes of the learner profile are noticed, nurtured, modeled and expected.
How can parents develop students who are risk-takers at home?
- If your child is feeling uneasy about trying something, encourage them to attempt it and then reflect on both whether they liked the activity and how it felt to try something new.
- Your child might want to set some short-term goals. Consider activities that make him/her nervous. What are realistic goals for the week? Your child might set a goal to:
- offer an opinion in class
- spend one recess with someone they might not usually play with
- order something different from the lunch menu
- try an activity they haven’t tried before.
Be careful to explain to your child the difference between being a risk taker by trying new things and doing dangerous things.
FMS Counseling Office
Reviewing of encore schedule changes will start next Tuesday, September 3. Students will be allowed to meet and discuss their encore schedule changes with their respective Counselor - Mr. Jones (A-L), Mrs. Torrence (M-Z). We can’t guarantee a request will be approved due to course maximum enrollment capacity. We will also visit classrooms throughout the month of September to introduce ourselves and discuss our Counseling roles here at Ferndale.

PTA and Parent News
Welcome back Trojans! The FMS PTA look forwards to a great year. We would like to have every family participate this year. Here's how you can help. Please consider joining PTA by contributing $5.00 by September 28th. Each person that joins will be entered for a chance to win a Walmart gift card. The winning homeroom teacher will receive an Amazon gift card. Monies receives goes back into supporting the needs of our school. The PTA also has several board seats available. If you are interested in serving in this capacity, please contact Tikela Evans at tikelaj@yahoo.com if you are interested. Let's have an awesome year!
Parents please help support us by not bringing outside food in for your child to eat during lunch. Students are not allowed to eat food from restaurants in the cafeteria and they miss class/instructional time. We appreciate your support in this area.
