Where Is It?
The Police memorial statue is in downtown Richmond on north 6th street south east the Richmond Coliseum.
About the Statue
The statue was dedicated in May of 1987 and was edited for 16 years after that. It was created by artist Maria Kirby-Smith who has sculpted many statues all over Virginia. The Statue stands 6"3 without the base. The statue depicts a police officer picking up a small child and carrying her to safety. I really shows me that through history in Virginia because in only 128 years only 28 police officer have died in the line of duty. New york has had almost five times that in only 10 years.
