Physical Education:
In gym class this week students practiced the skill of throwing and catching. Every student got a lot of practice throwing and catching a variety of equipment: yarn balls, bean bags, playground balls, grocery bags, and footballs. The focus for throwing this week is to step with the opposite foot forward. The learning target for the skill of catching is: the physically literate individual catches a soft object from a self-toss before it bounces.
They had fun playing throwing and catching games like get your trash out of my yard, fire and ice ball tag, submarine, and rescue the quarterback. This week I heard several students say, “Is gym class over already?” and I would respond “Yes, it goes fast when you’re having fun.”
Our next big wellness activity is the Jack-O’-Lantern Jog on October 9th. The jogging begins at 5 p.m. at the Friess Lake Fields and ends at 6 p.m. Prizes will follow for the jog and the costume contests.
