Principal's Update

January 8, 2021

Greetings North Plains Families!

Happy New Year! I'm sure many of you are as relieved as I am to put 2020 behind us. I hope you all had a relaxing and healthy winter break.

Our reader board is here and is being installed! I don't have a completion date as yet, but I'm sure it will be soon. It will be nice to have current messages that you can actually read from both sides!

The end of semester 1 is at the end of this month and teachers will have a grading day on Jan. 29, and a planning day on Feb. 1, so there will be no school on those days. Also, Martin Luther King Jr. day is Jan. 18, so no school on that holiday as well. Please mark your calendars!

Remember that attendance this year is quite different. I wrote about it several weeks ago, but as a reminder, a student needs to either log in to a "live", or synchronous session, or turn in an assignment to be counted present for the day. We want them the entire time of course, but understand when life happens!

Thank you all for being responsive to materials pick up days. These happen at different times because grade levels move through things at various rates. I appreciate you paying attention to emails from your child's teacher regarding these times. Soon we will have another opportunity during this time, curbside library book pick up! We are working on training our library assistant and pushing this out through the teachers to train students as to how to check out books, but should be ready to go in early February. Stay tuned!

Many of you may have questions regarding school boundaries with the new school, Atfaliti Ridge. A district committee has been formed to collect data and look at different options, and soon it will be expanded to a broader committee that will include community members. If you are interested in being a part of this committee, please let me know. There will also be open community meetings for input, so even if you are not a part of the formal committee, you will still have an opportunity to share your views.

I've been thinking about how we can do an all school event that is NOT online, but not in person either. One thought is to do a school wide fun run, say from here to Disneyland? We can calculate the miles needed and adjust based on number of students in the class, say. Students would log miles (achieved with different activities), and the class that got there first could win a drive by ice cream party or something? I would love to hear your thoughts and ideas!

I've had the opportunity to talk to several students over the last few months regarding their school experience at NPES. Many parents have filled out a survey for me as well and it's been very helpful. Please know that we really value your input!

Please reach out if I can help in any way, my contact info is below. Have a great weekend and keep those photos coming!
