So Much Awesomeness!

It's been a banner week here at Fletcher Elementary School! Each day has held incredible opportunities for our students to build school community and love learning. On Monday, we hosted Janelle Manzano from the SDUSD Farm to School Program who taught students about healthy eating choices and brought samples of golden kiwis to try at lunch. Our vaccine clinic had a great turnout Tuesday night. Wednesday, our PrimeTime kiddos were treated to a magic show from the Amazing Dave. Thursday, Heartlight San Diego dance pumped up the jams at lunch recess to demonstrate all the fun students can have if they join the after school program starting soon (a flyer went home with your student this week). Mrs. Duncan also hosted a "glow party" to combine fitness skills with students' learning about light.

Happy Lunar New Year in advance to all our families who celebrate! May the new year bring you abundant health and good luck.

Next week marks the start of Black History month. We're putting the finishing touches on finalizing guest speakers and activities to support the educational programming. More to come on that in next week's Falcon Flyer.

Vaccine Clinic Success

Our second vaccine clinic was a great success this week. We now have 16% more students who will be fully vaccinated in two weeks and many more adults in our community who are boosted. Despite overall turnout being lower than our first clinic, the Champions for Health staff were impressed nonetheless due to our proximity to other vaccination sites in the community that are open every day. Vaccination and masking are two of the best ways to protect yourself and others from major illness complications from the COVID-19 virus. We will continue to stay vigilant each and every day on campus to keep our students and staff safe.

Newest Falcons - John and Holly

We are incredibly fortunate to now have the talents of Mr. John O'Mara and Ms. Holly Scott as Paraeducator Independence Facilitators, better known as PIF's to support our students who receive Special Education services. Holly comes to Fletcher by way of Longfellow K-8, and John is pursuing a degree in child psychology aspiring to build additional experience prior to taking the next step in his career. Welcome aboard Ms. Holly and Mr. John!

School Site Council - Budget Priorities Review

Thank you families and staff who responded to our Budget Priorities survey last week. Our family participation was up 20% year over year. Based on the feedback from families and staff, student mental health supports, staffing for small group instruction, and Visual and Performing Arts are the top three priorities for funding next year. Principal Friedenberg will receive his official 2022-23 budget numbers shortly and begin working to sufficiently allocate funding to support these priority areas. On February 23rd, School Site Council will review the proposal for approval. The collaborative budgeting process is how and why we are able to meet the needs of the Fletcher Elementary community.

Student of the Week - Izzy!

This week's Student of the Week is Izzy in Ms. Massion's 2nd grade class! She is is consistently putting in the hard work during class. She follows the class promise, lends a helping hand to others and to her teacher! Izzy not only has the following traits but exemplifies them: helpful, goal-oriented, mature, and diligent. Every day, Ms. Massion looks forward to seeing her face and hearing her thoughts during class. Ms. Massion states, "Izzy is the sweetest soul I have ever met and feel honored to be her teacher this year." Congratulations Izzy, and thank you for being a phenomenal Falcon!

Report an Absence Online

Although we want students to be in school each day for class, we know that absences will happen. It is important that parents report their student's absence within 24 hours. Absences can be reported via our online form, phone or email. Please let us know if you have any questions and thank you for your support.

San Diego Unified School District now has a new testing site for all students and staff. If your student is showing symptoms at home or at school, this new resource will provide a quick and easy way to get test results so they can return to school as soon as possible. Testing will now be available at the Education Center located at 4100 Normal Street, 92103. It's only FIVE MILES away from Fletcher!

The site is open from 7:00AM - 7:00PM MONDAY through FRIDAY and 8:00AM - 5:00PM on Saturday and Sunday. No appointments necessary! Prior to testing, if your student isn't already registered to receive weekly testing on site, families will need to register for a Primary Health Portal account.
