Dear Caregivers, Students and Staff:
I'm coming to you to share information presented to the Board during the July 13 board meeting. As we continue planning and preparation for the 2020 - 21 school year, I want you to know that we want to keep students and staff safe. We are learning new things each day as the COVID-19 environment changes locally and nationally. We all need to take these things into consideration as we think about the start of the school year.
This update is to keep the lines of communication open and to let you know what we're preparing and thinking. We need to plan, we need to think and we need to look at all the possibilities. As we have seen in the past week, there are slight adjustments that require us to remain flexible and will continue to do so as we move forward.
Included below is a link to review the information shared if you were unable to join us virtually, Monday evening.
No matter the plan in place for the school year, SCHOOL IS IN SESSION with Berkeley County Schools. We are planning for 5 days of instruction. How that looks is something that we are working toward. This plan, beginning September 8, will deliver 180 days of instruction and learning.
We know learning will look different and we are preparing for all possibilities - both click and brick. Know the expectations for all involved will be more clearly defined. While we each have a traditional picture of education in our mind, we will all need to work together and adapt in supporting student learning and growth in our community.
We are focused on the social emotional concerns of our BCS community. We continue discussions around opportunities to connect with students and staff to make sure we're aware of their needs. Our Advance Team and many staff members are at work coordinating ways that we can support each other through this fluid situation. And, I know we can move through this transition period as a community, together.
We need to stay connected. We want families and students to know we want YOU connected with Berkeley County Schools, regardless of the format learning will take this school year.
Thank you for continuing to share your feedback and asking questions that need to be asked. Your involvement is critical so that we can all move forward, committed to teaching and growing students ready for future opportunities.
Be well, stay safe.
