important information about the 2021-22 school year

Dear Parents and Students,


We are excited about your return to in-person learning for the upcoming school year and continuing the call to LEAD at Moore Middle School! Planning is currently underway to provide quality and engaging instruction for all of our students in a face-to-face environment. Likewise, we have plans in place for many extracurricular events at the beginning of the school year to provide opportunities for our students to get involved!


Parents of rising 6th, 7th, 8th and Gear Up students should expect a phone call from their child’s new homeroom teacher in late July.

School to Home Communication

Please note that you may be missing critical information from our school and the district if you have not updated your contact information. Parents will not receive information in the following areas if their respective records are not up to date:


  • Weekly School Newsletter sent to the email address listed in our student information system
  • Report Cards, letters, and other information sent to the mailing address listed in our student information system
  • Notifications from the district (text and call) sent to the phone number listed in our student information system (please note that the local schools do not have the ability to send texts and robocalls to parents)


We are sending out our first Parent Newsletter for the 2021-2022 School Year on Monday, July 12th. Parents will receive this communication via email on the 12th and through regular mail later that week. It is critical that all families have accurate contact information (mailing address, email address, and phone numbers) in order to stay informed and up to date regarding what is happening at Moore Middle School and within GCPS. If you do not receive the Parent Newsletter by email or regular mail during the week of the 12th, it is likely that we do not have accurate contact information for you and that you will need to update your information as soon as possible. Please contact the school at 678-226-7100 for more information regarding updating your records.

Open House/Meet Your Teacher Day - Friday, July 30th

We are highly recommending all of our parents/students to attend this year. During our Open House, you will have the opportunity to learn your child’s team assignment, meet your child’s teachers, receive more information about supplies, and verify important information (address, phone number, medical information, immunizations, etc.). You will learn about bus routes and pre-pay for lunches, and receive additional information about the start of the school year based on grade level (see Staggered Start information below).


6th Grade 11:30AM - 1:30PM

8th Grade/Gear Up 5:00PM - 6:30PM

Staggered Start for the 2021-22 School Year

Please note that all students do not begin on the same day! The 2021-2022 school year begins for students on the following dates by grade level. We will provide additional details about the staggered start and what digital instruction for 7th & 8th/Gear Up will look like for their digital days during our Open House/Meet Your Teacher Day.


Wednesday, August 4th: First Day of In-Person Instruction for 6th Grade

Thursday, August 5th: First Day of In-Person Instruction for 7th Grade (Digital on August 4th)

Monday, August 9th: First Day of In-Person Instruction for 8th Grade/Gear Up (Digital on August 4th-6th)
