COUNSELOR'S CORNER WITH MS. SERENITY
School counseling groups in February include two new cohorts of Calm Ninjas and our ongoing Lunch Bunch for 4th grade girls with the Girl Scouts of America. If you would like more information about either of these groups or if you are interested in having your child participate, please contact Ms. Serenity ASAP.
Suicide prevention lessons continue for 5th graders as part of D51’s suicide prevention curriculum. Identifying trusted adults and how to reach out to those trusted adults for help is the focus of those lessons. Fourth graders will be learning about how to avoid jumping to conclusions as part of their emotion management unit. Handling accusations and managing disappointment will be the focus of the third grade lessons this month. Second graders are learning about how to take responsibility for their mistakes. Practicing fair ways to play by taking turns, trading and sharing is the focus for our first graders’ lesson in February. Our kindergarten students will be learning more about how to identify emotions based on facial expressions and body language. These lessons are all designed to help students learn and practice essential skills for learning and building and maintaining friendships.
If you have any questions on the school counseling program at Taylor Elementary, please contact Ms. Serenity at serenity@d51schools or 970-254-4870 ext. 63100.

A WORD FROM PRINCIPAL WILSON
Dear Taylor Families,
How is it February already!? This year seems to be going by so quickly! It was great seeing some of our families during conferences earlier this month.
National Counselors’ Week:
I wanted to give a shout out to Serenity Santistevan, our school counselor. February 5th-9th is National Counselors’ Week, and we are so lucky to have such a wonderful staff member working with our students each day. She not only supports school-wide committees, but more importantly, supports students in a multitude of ways. Thanks for all you do, Serenity!
Donuts With Your Darlings:
PTO sent home a form in your student’s Thursday folder today with information on our Donuts With Your Darlings event. If you didn’t receive this form, please contact the office for one. We would love to have you join us on February 14th, Valentine’s Day, in our cafeteria for a donut with your student!
Theme of the Month:
For the month of February, our theme will be Kindness. Teachers will be discussing how to show kindness to others in and outside of the school throughout the month. Let’s all commit to doing one kind thing for someone else this month!
Thanks for all you do to support your child and our school! We appreciate you! As always, please reach out if you have any questions.
