Upper El Weekly Newsletter
04/11/2022 - 04/15/2022
Dear Parents/families
Dear Upper Elementary parents,
Highlights from this past week:
The sleepover last week Friday was great fun. We played flashlight tag, hide and seek, and capture the flag, watched a movie, and tried sleeping. Thank you to parent volunteers who helped out (Jay, David, Katie, Ryan, Dan) and to all parents for helping by providing snacks and dropping off and picking up your child on time.
Our regular CMAS testing is done! Fifth grade students took three science tests this week. We are really proud of the effort they all put into the tests and the positive, fun attitudes they expressed.
Students are working hard on their Choice research projects. They are developing their written component and have been putting a lot of creative effort into their visuals. We have students working on dioramas, drawings, stop motion videos, etc. The children are really excited about what they are doing.
4th and 5th graders enjoyed a field trip to the Hotchkiss Fairgrounds today and visited educational and fun stations put on by the Black Mesa Cattlewomen’s Association.
We continued doing projects and reading Charlie and the Chocolate Factory together as a group. It is part of the Delta County Libraries Read On program, and we will be going as a group to see the movie at the Paradise in Paonia on the Monday after the break (Monday, April 25). This week, all of the students in the Spectacled Bears homeroom made and recorded commercials for the candy they designed. The videos are very funny and creative. Ask your child to tell you about what he/she did. The Black Bears homeroom designed, drew, and wrote about their candy. Their ideas were also really creative and unique.
Thank you to all of our parents who volunteer!!!!! We really appreciate you. We have many weekly jobs, daily jobs, and periodic jobs in the classroom, so please let us know if you are interested in coming in. We welcome parents to observe and volunteer in the classroom.

The Annual Student Spring Show at the Creamery Arts Center is coming up and Shannon needs some volunteers to help prepare the artwork. On Tuesday, May 2 (time to be determined) she could use help hanging the show at the Creamery Arts Center. Finally, on Friday, May 6th there will be an opening reception and we need donations of seltzer water, fruit juice, and paper cups to make a punch for the event. Please email Shannon if you are available to help with any of these show preparations. **See flyer on our website for event details.
