National School Counseling Week
Counseling News from the Indiana Department of Education
A Note from IDOE's School Counseling Specialist
I want to share how grateful I am for the amazing work you do each and every day for students in Indiana. School counseling is a noble profession and you should all feel proud of the work you do each and every day. Whether it is consoling a crying kindergartner, helping a middle school student resolve conflict or helping a high school student find their pathway to success post-secondary, YOU MATTER! We are sometimes that ONE person who makes a difference for ONE student and that is such important work! I love the Starfish Story (if you aren't familiar, please see below) because it relates so much to our profession. We are often faced with long to-do lists and feel as if there are not enough of us to meet the needs of our students, yet here we are, day after day, making a difference, one student at a time.
I was inspired last week by a webinar shared by ASCA, National School Counseling Week as an Advocacy Opportunity, and came up with a week full of activities to help us promote our role as school counselors, while simultaneously celebrating the impact we have on our schools. Please use the activities below to educate the administrators, teachers, parents, and community stakeholders on your role as a school counselor. I created a PDF (with links) and a picture (for social media and newsletters) you can use with you school counseling programs. Also, check out ASCA's website for more activities you can do each day to celebrate National School Counseling Week. Please share pictures with me on Twitter. Be sure to follow me @CounselorClarke and @EducateIN, and tag us in photos, we want to see all the awesome things you are doing this upcoming week!
Sincerely,
Michelle
