SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL NOMINATIONS
What is the School Site Council?
The School Site Council is made up of the principal, three teachers, five parents and one classified staff employee. Each member has an equal voice to provide input and support for school improvement programs and school budget. Meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month. Members of the School Site Council are elected by their peers to serve a two-year term.
What school site council does?
The Council’s purpose is to propose school wide goals, i.e., “85% of the 2nd-5th graders will score at the Proficient Level or above in Math, as measured by the California Standards Test.” The goals must be directly related to improving student achievement. The council also recommends the allocation of funds, in compliance with federal and state laws, to meet those goals. The goals, review of data, and budget are components of the annual Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA).
We are seeking nominations for two parents or community members on the site council for the 2023 - 2024 and 2024 - 2025 school years. Returning parents and community members are Kristin Beer, Bob Leon, and Morgan Burgwald. If you would like to nominate someone, please ask them first, or nominate yourself.
Please submit this form by September 5th.
Meetings are virtual and held the first Thursday of every month from 7 a.m. to 7:50 a.m.
SAFETY PATROL REMINDERS
Recess Roundup
Playground Game FOCUS for the coming week: 8/28
Wall Ball/ Handball
As a reminder, we are asking teachers to explicitly teach each of the playground games following the schoolwide schedule.
Week 2: Wall Ball
Week 3: Tetherball
Week 4: Grass area
Week 5: Play structure
There will be a little video on RRTV that shows how Wall Ball is played. We discussed the rules and common fouls. The sign for Wall Ball is posted on the fence by the courts.
Wall Ball/ Handball
Four players on the court. 1st has been in the longest, then 2nd, 3rd, and 4th is the new player.
The 1st player serves by dropping the ball and then hitting it. Players take turns hitting the ball in number order.
When hit, the ball must hit the ground, the wall, and the ground again before being hit by the next player.
Players must move out of the way after they hit the ball.
Play continues until someone commits a foul. Once out, the player leaves the game and a new player comes in. The new player begins as 4th to hit.
Fouls
When a foul is committed, the player leaves the game and goes to the end of the line.
Hitting the ball before it bounces on the ground.
Hitting the ball out of bounds or over the wall.
Letting the ball bounce twice before hitting it.
The ball cannot bounce between the wall and the first white line or land on the line. If so, the person that hit the ball is out. This is the “Dead Zone”.
Not moving out of the way for the next player.
High Heat Precautions
When in the low 90s degrees blacktop is closed. Lunch recess will be in the MPR; PE and other activities will be modified - no running or strenuous activities.
Mid-nineties and above no outdoor PE or held under a shade structure, Blacktop closed to all, indoor or shade options available for students during recess and lunch.
100+ treat like a rainy day and have indoor lunch/recess: eating outdoors may be an option based on conditions.
