Student Safety - Food Allergies

Food allergies can be life-threatening, and SLS has numerous students with a variety food allergies. The risk of accidental exposure to foods at SLS can be reduced if we all work together to minimize the risks and provide a safe educational environment for food-allergic students.

In addition to the yearly staff trainings, we also have policies in place. I want to emphasize the following section of the policy (SLS Food Allergy Policy, Article IV):

"As a general rule, SLS will discourage food being eaten in the classroom. Any foods used should be obtained through the SLS Cafeteria. Homemade foods will not be accepted to be consumed and/or used in classroom activities events."

With Halloween tonight, I thought it would be a good time to revisit what we do for our food-allergic students and why.

Thank you,

Mr. Chad Moeller

REMC "Live Line" Demo

Last week SLS 6th grade experienced a "live line" demo from REMC. This was a great presentation on electrical safety. Three lineman came to SLS to show what actually happens if something gets on the electric wires and also explained the voltage. The students were amazed at how loud it was when the fuses blew! They were very engaged and asked a good variety of questions.
