Student Safety - Food Allergies
Food allergies can be life-threatening, and SLS has numerous students with a variety food allergies. The risk of accidental exposure to foods at SLS can be reduced if we all work together to minimize the risks and provide a safe educational environment for food-allergic students. In addition to the yearly staff trainings, we also have policies in place. I want to emphasize the following section of the policy (SLS Food Allergy Policy, Article IV):
"As a general rule, SLS will discourage food being eaten in the classroom. Any foods used should be obtained through the SLS Cafeteria. Homemade foods will not be accepted to be consumed and/or used in classroom activities events."
With Halloween tonight, I thought it would be a good time to revisit what we do for our food-allergic students and why.
Thank you,
Mr. Chad Moeller
Happy Halloweeen!
