SCCSD Virtual Connections
Dear Parents/Guardians,
Thank you for your vigilance in helping us keep students engaged in their learning. While the school closures in response to COVID-19 may have changed the way we deliver educational opportunities, these closures have not stifled our passion to help students achieve academic excellence.
Virtual connections have never been so important. Today’s software tools allow collaborative learning opportunities to continue. We are now at a point where all teachers are hosting virtual classroom meetings weekly. These meetings offer an opportunity for students to interact with their classmates and teachers. During the meetings, our teachers can answer questions related to the voluntary continuous learning lessons, provide continued learning support, and maintain meaningful connections with students. Please watch for messages from your child’s school for specific details on accessing these virtual classroom meetings.
To help students access online learning materials and participate in the virtual classroom meetings, the District has made free Wi-Fi available at seven school parking lot locations and six mobile hotspot locations. View a list of locations and times to access Wi-Fi near your home.
Students can access any visitor Wi-Fi networks from the mobile hotspots by connecting to the Wi-Fi ID “SiouxCitySchools.” To access any visitor Wi-Fi networks from the 24/7 school hotspots, students must connect to the Wi-Fi ID “SCSCHOOLS.” If you experience problems, please contact the technology team at helpdesk@live.siouxcityschools.com or 712-279-6803.
Virtual gatherings also enable us to host a commencement celebration for the class of 2020 at the end of May. In recent messages, I shared our plans to host a virtual commencement during the timeframe that our original commencement ceremonies were scheduled and our alternative plans for hosting in-person commencement programs when it is safe to do so.
Now, in addition to these plans, I am excited to share, we will also televise our virtual commencement ceremonies on the local KTIV station. So, in addition to accessing the virtual commencement by email, on the website, and through social media, you can also view these ceremonies on TV at the following times:
Saturday, May 23 at noon – North High School
Saturday, May 23 at 1 pm – West High School
Sunday, May 24 at noon – East High School
I continue to be committed to helping our school communities interact and stay connected. Our work this school year continues through June 2. Together, we can continue efforts to learn, grow, and celebrate together.
We are ALL in this together Black Raiders!
Let's Talk
An engaged community makes our District stronger. That is why we have made it easy for you to connect with us whenever it is convenient for you. We encourage you to take advantage of Let’s Talk!, our 24/7 online submission site. Reach out with your ideas, questions, concerns, and praise. To make a submission, please visit http://www.siouxcityschools.org/lets-talk/.
Communication and Preparedness
Student and staff safety is of paramount importance in the Sioux City Community School District. For this reason, the District exercises a host of crisis prevention and planning tactics. Should an emergency occur, the school notifies you through our Blackboard phone system. In an emergency, the system calls every phone number associated with your child in order to reach you. The message will give you details about the emergency and provide directions on when/where to pick up your child if the normal school day is altered. Learn more about school safety.
