Dear Hazelbrook Families,

Having students back in the building has been such a joy! Students are doing an amazing job of being where they need to be and following our expectations around using their cell phones - I am so proud of them and thank you for your help with this. We kicked off the week with an all school assembly where two teacher teams battled it out in a Battle of the Bands competition. The support and encouragement from students and staff was exciting to see and hear!

Now that the school year has begun, we are looking forward to hosting some family engagement opportunities. Our first is Back-to-School Night this Wednesday. Students will show off their school and you will have a chance to meet our amazing staff. Our next event is a Family Movie Night which we will host quarterly and alternate in both Spanish and English as a way to lift up and celebrate our incredible Two-Way Immersion program (subtitles will be on). Please let us know what movies you would like to see!

Our After School Activities (ASA) will be up and running soon so if you haven’t turned in your form, please do that as soon as possible. The ASA team has an exciting year planned and we don’t want anyone to miss out on these opportunities! If your child wants to participate but you’re unsure if you can afford it, please reach out to us - we have ways to help!

Next week I will share our instructional focus as a building and how you can help with that. In the meantime, we would like to ask for your patience during pick up in the afternoon. The number of cars coming through our parking lot and neighborhood really puts a strain on dismissal so we appreciate your understanding if you find yourself caught up in traffic. If you and your student are comfortable and able to take the bus, this will help.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. We have an amazing community and the most incredible group of students. We really are the best middle school around!

¡Tener a los estudiantes de vuelta en el edificio ha sido un placer! Los estudiantes están haciendo un trabajo increíble al estar donde deben estar y siguiendo nuestras expectativas sobre el uso de sus teléfonos celulares. Estoy muy orgullosa de ellos y gracias por su ayuda con esto. Comenzamos la semana con una asamblea de toda la escuela donde dos equipos de maestros se enfrentaron en una competencia de Batalla de Bandas. ¡Fue emocionante ver y escuchar el apoyo y el aliento de los estudiantes y el personal!

Ahora que ha comenzado el año escolar, esperamos tener algunas oportunidades de participación familiar. Nuestra primera es la Noche de Regreso a la Escuela este miércoles(9/14). Los estudiantes le mostrarán su escuela y tendrán la oportunidad de conocer a nuestro increíble personal. Nuestro próximo evento es una Noche de cine familiar que presentaremos trimestralmente y alternativamente en español e inglés como una forma de animar y celebrar nuestro increíble programa de inmersión bidireccional (habrá subtítulos). ¡Cuéntanos qué películas te gustaría ver!

Nuestras actividades extracurriculares (ASA) estarán en funcionamiento pronto, así que si no ha entregado su formulario, hágalo lo antes posible. ¡El equipo de ASA tiene planeado un año emocionante y no queremos que nadie se pierda estas oportunidades! Si su hijo quiere participar pero no está seguro de poder pagarlo, comuníquese con nosotros, ¡tenemos formas de ayudarlo!

La próxima semana compartiré nuestro enfoque de instrucción como edificio y cómo puede ayudar con eso. Mientras tanto, nos gustaría pedirle paciencia durante la recogida por la tarde. La cantidad de autos que pasan por nuestro estacionamiento y vecindario realmente ejerce presión sobre el despido, por lo que agradecemos su comprensión si se encuentra atrapado en el tráfico. Si usted y su estudiante se sienten cómodos y pueden tomar el autobús, esto ayudará.
