News from Ms. Hess
In literacy, we were focused on learning about Greek and Latin roots. We learned that 20% of all words have these roots, which can help us make inferences about what words mean. We also read articles with varying points of view. We discovered that facts can be gathered to support differing points of view and how to identify those facts as a reader.
In science, we observed and recorded our observations about mystery "black boxes." These small black boxes have small pieces of foam and a marble inside. Students are posed the question, "What does it look like inside the black box?" Next week, we will create our own models of our observations and will eventually build consensus with other scientists.
Musicians will have band every Tuesday and Friday starting next week. Please help your child to remember to bring in their instrument. Students not in band will begin mentoring students in 1st grade next week - so exciting!
