Message from Mr. Burns
Hi Wims Families,
Sorry for the delay on my weekly message. Jack and I went down to FedEx Field to watch our NY Giants take on the Washington Commanders. It is tradition for us to go to a game every year. We were excited (shockingly) that the NY Giants were able to come away with a victory:)
Speaking of traditions, we are excited to welcome back a previous Wims tradition, Grandparents Day. We look forward to meeting some of our extended Wims family members tomorrow morning. Thank you to all those who RSVP'd so our PTA could plan accordingly. In addition, tomorrow we will have our annual Open House from 9:30 - 11:00 a.m. Feel free to stay as little or as much as you want within the timeframe:) Entry for Grandparents Day will be through our All Purpose Room entrance (side of the building near bus loop). Entry for Open House will be through the front of the building.
Finally, I want to wish you and your family a wonderful Thanksgiving break. I am so thankful for our Wims students, staff, and community!

MP 1 P.R.I.D.E Assembly
We had a great celebration of our Wims students on Friday. Thank you to all of our family members who were able to come out and join us. If your child received an award and you were not able to join us, we will send you a copy of their special photo. Our PRIDE focus for MP 2 is responsibility.
Distribution of COVID Test kits
We know many of our families will spend time over the upcoming break traveling and visiting with friends and family. As travel and crowded indoor gatherings can increase the risk of respiratory infections including COVID-19, MCPS is making at-home rapid test kits available to students and staff prior to the break.
Testing is not mandatory. We are depending on our staff and families to consider their exposure risk, and test and report positive results accordingly.
Please note that the InteliSwab test takes 30 minutes for results and has an extended expiration date. Test kits should be used for staff and students. For other family members, free rapid test kits are also available at most public library locations and by mail.
What do I do if the rapid test is positive?
Staff and students positive for COVID-19 should notify their school or program directly if absent due to COVID-19. Individuals who have a positive COVID-19 test will need to follow CDC guidelines for isolation.
Please remember that respiratory infections like influenza and RSV are also circulating in our community. Healthy habits including isolating when sick, good handwashing and covering coughs and sneezes help prevent illness. COVID Test kits will be sent home with Wims students on Friday, November 17. Tests will be distributed one per student and staff member. We do not have extra test kits.

From the PTA Board
Dear Families,
The school year is really flying by! As soon as the holiday season is upon us, it feels like the pedal hits the metal straight through to the new year. I am so thankful to our PTA executive board, our staff & administration at Wims, and all of our committees for their dedicated, hard work. And we are thankful for our volunteers and for you, for coming to our meetings, attending our events, and supporting the staff & students by volunteering and donating. We see you and are grateful for every single set of hands.
We are looking forward to welcoming our grandparents on Monday at 8am and showing them our Wims P.R.I.D.E! We understand that not everyone has an available grandparent to bring to the event and for that reason, we are grateful to Mr. Burns and the Wims Staff for also inviting our families to an Open House following Grandparents Day. And if you signed up to donate a pie, don’t forget to drop it off in the front office on Monday between 8am and 4pm. It’s going to be a short, but bustling week!
Wherever you are going next week, whomever you are going with, and however you plan to celebrate, we wish you the happiest and warmest of times and we thank you for being part of our Wildcat Community.
Happy Thanksgiving!
~ Ashley Zuraf, PTA President, 2023-24 School Year
HELP WANTED: GIRLS ON THE RUN
We are putting out a call to the community to consider bringing back Girls on the Run (GOTR) to Wims. The program has thrived at Wims in the past and registration is opening for the spring season, themed “Hello, Superstar!” The GOTR curriculum not only teaches girls to run but benefits them by leaving a lasting impact on their lives and creating memories that will stay with them forever. GOTR empowers girls to stand up for themselves & others, fosters self-respect, and encourages them to make a difference in their community.
For every team of 20 girls, 3 adults are needed to guide them as coaches. Practice days and times are at the discretion of the volunteer coaches. You can read more about the coaching requirements here. If running is something you love, and you think you’d be a great role model for a GOTR team, please reach out to us with your interest at pta@wwespta.org. We will only be able to consider hosting a team at Wims if we have enough volunteers to serve as coaches.
BOOK FAIR at WIMS
Fall Book Fair will officially kick-off on November 27th following the Thanksgiving break. We will open early for special shopping hours on Nov. 20th for Grandparents’ Day, from 8-9:30am. Wish lists will be coming home between Nov. 20-27th. Many volunteers are needed to make our Book Fair a success. Please sign up to help! The PTA still needs a co-chair for Book Fair! If you have any questions or are interested in helping, please reach out to Danni Ibarra.
