ISTEP Testing-Multiple Choice April 23-May 6
The next window for ISTEP testing is April 23-May 6. These tests will include all multiple choice items in the areas of Math and Language Arts for grades 3-5. 4th Grade will take an additional test in Science. Grades 3-5 will take the online version of this assessment. Your child’s attendance for this testing is very important. Mrs. Day will be offering class treats to any class that has perfect attendance during the testing window. Please make sure your child gets plenty of rest and a good breakfast in the morning. We will be serving breakfast snacks here at school each testing day.

Mentone Elementary Partners with Tippecanoe Valley High School Students
Mentone Elementary is very fortunate to have many TVHS students in and out of our building each year. TVHS student leaders make presentations, observe classrooms for internships and mentor students throughout the school year. On March 27th the TVHS FFA students came to Mentone and read to our 1st and 4th grade students. Students in these grade levels will also learned about the agriculture in our area and brought home a free book.
On May 22nd our 4th grade students will be participating in Pioneer Day. Pioneer Day is a project that the TVHS American Studies Class sponsors each year. 4th grade students will be spending the day visiting the Prill School, (one room school house), and participating in activities so that they can experience pioneer life. Mentone Elementary School students are very excited about these two opportunities along with all of the other great services the TVHS student leaders provide.

A Message from our School Nurse:
How to reduce the spread of head lice
It is impossible to prevent head lice completely because they are common in the community, but there are steps you can take to reduce the spread of head lice.
*Check your child’s head regularly
--Once a week as part of a routine
--After every sleepover
*Keep long hair tied back or braided
*Teach your child not to share personal items that have contact with the head. Such as, brushes, combs, barrettes, hairbands, towels, scarves, helmets and hats.
*Teach your child to put their hats and scarves in their coat sleeves or backpacks when they take them off at school.
If your child has been in contact with someone who has head lice, you need to check your child’s head carefully for head lice. Head lice spread easily, so if one person in the household has lice others may have it too. CHECK everyone in the household on the same day. If head lice are found treat as soon as possible. If we work together we can reduce this problem. Thank you for your help!
Thank You

A Message from the Principal
I think that the weather is beginning to get warmer. We have not had many consistent days of warmth this spring. Please continue to have your student wear a coat or jacket to school until Mother Nature turns on the warmth for good.
This month the newsletter contains many resources to keep active over the summer. Hopefully your child can take advantage of a sports team or a lesson over the summer months.
Please remember that if you need to contact me you can call the school at 574-353-7465, ext. 512 or e-mail me at millera@tvsc.k12.in.us.
