Koplik and Adams Scholarships
Taking the MCAS in 9th and 10th grade is more than just a graduation requirement. It is also an opportunity for students to qualify for two awards that provide a tuition credit at the state universities (all community colleges, state universities, and schools in the UMass system). It is important for students and families to be aware of these awards and what they need to do to use them.
The John and Abigail Adams Scholarship is awarded to students who meet particular score benchmarks on the three MCAS tests (ELA, Math, and Science) and have a combined score that places them in the top 25% of students in the district. Qualified 12th graders were notified by letter in October. In order to use the award, students must present the letter to the financial aid office at the school they plan to attend. Students must also complete the FAFSA. More information on this award can be found here.
The Stanley Z. Koplik Certificate of Mastery with Distinction is awarded to students who meet particular score benchmarks on the three MCAS tests (ELA, Math, and Science) and complete additional requirements as outlined in the application. Students seeking this award must complete the application and the additional requirements to receive the award. These additional requirements could include taking AP exams or SAT Subject Tests. Students must also submit an application to the Koplik coordinator, Ms. Eaton, by May of their senior year and submit a copy of the qualification letter to the financial aid office at the school they plan to attend in order to use the award. Eligible 12th graders were notified by mail in October. For more information on this award, click here.
Students in the class of 2022 will have opportunities this year to earn these awards. Information on eligible scores can be found at the links above.
