Welcome Jason Brier
He is excited about joining the OES community.
Prior to having Mr. Brier and Ms. Corden, long term substitute visit each classroom, we started the day by having every classroom teacher read the same script. The goal was to help provide closure for students and staff. The script stated the following:
We are a school family here at Oakdale Elementary.
Mr. Gill one of our Oakdale family members is not returning to Oakdale as the guidance counselor.
As a student and as grown-ups, when someone leaves and doesn’t come back it hurts our hearts.
Mr. Gill is not sick, he has decided to work outside of the school. You may run into Mr. Gill in the community or at a store, like Walmart.
Mr. Gill will be dearly missed and if you would, you can take the paper on your desk and write him a note, card, or draw a picture and then give it to your teacher who will make sure Mr. Gill receives it.
Cultural Proficiency Committee - Check out the information below.
This is a new committee being formed at OES.
“Cultural proficiency is the values, principles, attitudes, behaviors, policies and practices in an organization or an individual that enable him/her or the organization to work effectively across cultures. It is a developmental process that evolves over an extended period. Cultural Proficiency is an inside-out approach that influences how people relate to their colleagues, students, clients and community.”
Nuri-Robins, Lindsey, Lindsey, and Terrell (2012)
Our goal for the coming 2019-2020 is to identify the many cultures that are represented at OES and to create opportunities to enhance relationships and understanding between staff, students, and the OES community.
If you are interested in being part of the committee, please email Tia Dowdell at tiamwdowdell@gmail.com and include your name and email address that you would like to receive additional information about the date and time of our first meeting.
