Jan 8th Newsletter

Principal's Message

Thank you for such a successful week of virtual learning! We received many emails and calls sharing how smooth the transition was for our students. I give praise and appreciation to our hard-working teachers that dedicated Monday and Tuesday to prepare our virtual classrooms for student success.

We are excited to safely welcome our students back into the building on Monday, January 10th at our regular time (8:35am).

We will be following our mask protocol, mitigation strategies, and will be utilizing the most updated guidance (last updated Jan 6th) found on the following COVID link from the district website: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/community/schools-childcare/k-12-contact-tracing/about-quarantine.htm. Please be sure to report any positive cases and/or exposures to me via email at michelle_perez@dekalbschoolsga.org and to keep any ill students at home.

We are on schedule with all extracurricular events but will update our community and student body if guidelines or plans change. Please know athletic events are limited to parent spectators until further notice.

I want to ask for your support and cooperation as we move forward with this great school year. There are always possible bus delays, coverage needed for staff absences, and unexpected occurrences, but please know that as a strong, unified community, we will safely focus on great learning and climate at Peachtree.

ACCESS Testing

ACCESS is a test administered annually to all English learners in Georgia. Students in our ESOL program will take the test Feb 7th - 11th.

It is a standards-based, criterion referenced English language proficiency test designed to measure English learners’ social and academic proficiency in English. It assesses social and instructional English as well as the language associated with language arts, mathematics,

science, and social studies within the school context across the four language domains. The test is used to determine whether a student will exit the ESOL program. When a student exits the ESOL program, they are monitored for several years to ensure success outside of the program.

The letters below provide more details about the test.

January Clean-Up Day - Date Change to 1/29/22

*** Please note the date change in response to the current Covid case increase ***

Grab your coat and gloves and come on over to Peachtree Middle to help clean up our courtyard! We'll pull weeds and overgrown landscaping, haul away leftover lumber and junk, sweep, clean, and make this space usable for our students! This is the first step in what will be an exciting transformation into an outdoor classroom/maker space and school event location.

When: January 29th from 12pm-4pm

Please click on the Sign Up Genius link to sign up to help at this event! We'll have pizza and drinks for those volunteering!
