AIM on Wednesday
Know & Go
AIM Math Agora and the Olympics!
Today we started with a BRILLANT idea! We are starting our own class word problem business! We discussed that our third grade math teachers are always looking for great math word problems for STARR practice and who better to write these questions then a bunch of third grade math whizzes? THEY LOVED THAT IDEA! We voted (since Greece started democracy) and decided our new business would be called the AIM MATH AGORA. We started by solving some of the problems that we wrote last week to check for errors before we prepared them for our "customers". Then we immediately dissected how STARR questions typically look like in regards to fractions. We also used one of Aesop's Fables as the inspiration for our questions. As the editor I will select which questions will be published each week for the third grade teachers to use and I have to say.... the questions were awesome!! What a great way to have them sharpen their math skills and go deeper into those math concepts. We negotiated a fair working wage which I won't put in writing because they haven't signed contracts yet. :)
For the rest of AIM we broke into our groups and continued working out the details for our own Greek Olympics. Today students worked on using specific ancient events as the inspiration for their modified-classroom Olympics. It was a very busy day!
