April 2016

April is National Poetry Month

My Teacher Took My iPod

My teacher took my iPod.

She said she had a rule;

I couldn't bring it into class

or even to the school.

She said she would return it;

I'd have it back that day.

But then she tried my headphones on

and gave a click on Play.

She looked a little startled,

but after just a while

she made sure we were occupied

and cracked a little smile.

Her body started swaying.

Her toes began to tap.

She started grooving in her seat

and rocking to the rap.

My teacher changed her mind.

She thinks it's now okay

to bring my iPod into class.

She takes it every day.

Shadow Puppet Edu App

Students could use Shadow Puppet to put pictures with poetry or with a poem they have written. Then students could record themselves reading the poem aloud.

McKinney Public Library Summer Reading

The Youth Services Librarian in charge of coordinating McKinney Public Library’s outreach for Summer Reading Programs and events will be coming to Lindsey on May 17th to visit with each grade level in our library.

Some of the topics that may be discussed are below:

  • Introduce materials and resources available at the Public Library
  • Book review some of our newest titles, the 2016-2017 Bluebonnets, and other exciting literature
  • Present a customized program for your student’s age levels and interests

The goal for the Summer Reading Program is to find fun ways to help students keep their skills sharp and combat the “summer slide”.
