Dear Families and Friends of Boone School,

As we wind down the year, students will begin taking their final NWEA MAP assessments beginning on May 14th. A detailed calendar with exam days and times for all grades K-8 will be sent home with the students very soon. We ask all students to make sure that you attend class every day and are prepared to do your best work during the exams. Remember to have a good breakfast on the day of the exams and to sleep enough hours the night before to help you do your best!

I also wanted to make sure you all know that May 6-10th is Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week! Be sure to show your teachers and all Boone staff how much you appreciate everything they do. Some ideas to celebrate: make a card, sing a song, write a poem, help with extra tasks in the class. What other ideas do you have?

Jackie Delaney, Principal

Throughout the year our students will be performing and sharing what they are learning in our Expressive Arts classes. These dates are also listed on our Boone Google calendar on our website. Your students’ performance will take place at their regularly scheduled Expressive Arts time. Check in with any of the teachers for more details closer to each show date: May 6 and June 6

The Building Boone Committee would like to thank all of the students and teachers for participating in the First Annual Fun Run. Together we earned $5288 for Boone School!

Grades K,1, 2, 5, 6, and 7 earned an extra pajama day for reaching their fundraising goals.

The four classes winning extra recess are:

Mr. Austria who raised $422

Ms. Gramatis who raised $433

Ms. Natividad who raised $478

Mr. Bowen who raised $715

Keep running Boonies. We'll see you next year.

STEAM Night was a huge success!!! The free event was designed to spotlight the importance of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics through providing hands-on activities.

Teachers, Staff, and Student Volunteers provided Boone community members with opportunities to learn about S.T.E.A.M. The activities were collaborative, challenging, and creativity. Fun was truly had by all who attended.

Dear Neighbor,

Thank You to the Students of Boone Elementary

The 50th Ward Food Drive is still going strong! We have had a tremendous response so far. I am very grateful for everyone who has taken the effort and expense of helping their neighbors in need.

I want to highlight one particular donor: the amazing children of Boone Elementary School. The students organized a food drive at the school and delivered dozens of boxes of canned and dry goods to the 50th Ward Office to be distributed to those in need.

Thank you to the Boone Cares Club for organizing the school drive. Thank you to teachers Lissete Plaza and Christian Villar for being such amazing role models for the students. And thank you to all of the children, parents and families who gave so generously.

On Wednesday, April 24th, Community School programs at Boone performed in the auditorium!

Students in after-school programs like Singing Club, Kalapriya, Dancing with Class, hip hop yoga, and Boone Cares shared what they’ve been learning in after-school this year. Our adult hip hop yoga class also performed! The showcase featured programs funded through the Community Schools Initiative grant that Boone and the YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago are jointly administering.

A group of 3rd and 4th grade students in the YMCA after-school program participated in a Destination Imagination competition at Northern Illinois University over break. Students competed in team STEM challenges and won first place for a skit they had prepared for the competition!

Parents participated in our Free Canvas Painting Party! Courtesy of Boone’s Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) May meeting as part of our Arts Integration at Boone.
