Andrew Jackson
The Great Andrew Jackson...Well not so much
Indian Removal Act
Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act. This bill allowed the U.S. Government to exchange the Indian's land in Georgia for random land in Oklahoma which the Indians would later be moved to. But Congress vetoed the bill and they said the Indians cannot be removed. The U.S. Government wanted the Indian's land because they thought it could help them grow the economy.
Spoils System
The Spoils System is when someone receives an award because they helped a candidate win. Jackson hired multiple random people because they helped him become president. They got hired because the spoils system says they should be rewarded because of their work. Some people liked this system and some did not.
Killing the National Bank
Jackson thinks the National Bank is unconstitutional. He thinks it only helps the wealthy. Jackson wants to get rid of it so he vetoed the bill that allows National Banks to be built in the U.S. Less wealthy people start to like him because of this. because it will help them out a little.
Political Cartoon
Jackson ignored a lot of laws and bills. He would either veto them or just simply ignore them. He did what he wanted to do. He treated national laws like they were a joke. Jackson was a King in his eyes. He was the most powerful man in the world apparently because he didn't follow the rules.
Letter from National Republican (Positive)
I love Andrew Jackson, he is amazing. I am now a part of the Supreme Court because I helped him win the election to become president. He is so smart with his decision to kick out the Natives. We will get good land and make even more money and the economy will grow also. Destroying the National Banks was a great idea, I am sure Andrew Jackson thought of that because he is just so smart.
Letter from Cherokee (Negative)
I hate Andrew Jackson! He kicked us out of Georgia, because he wanted our land. He didn't even try to compromise with us, he made a deal we didn't agree with. They forced us into Oklahoma while they were taking our land in Georgia. We have to work hard for everything that we do, he just gets to do what he wants, when he wants and no one is going to stop him.
