Here's what's happening in MS this week!

Dear parents,
This week is the end of the marking period which means conferences are right around the corner! We hope to see you there.
ENGLISH
6th Grade: Student Narratives are due on Friday, March 6th. We will be working on finalizing the stories along with editing and revision all week. Our next unit will focus on informational reading which will then flow into writing an informational piece. New vocabulary words will be posted on Monday and encourage your child to complete their No Red Ink assignment this week before the marking period ends.
7th Grade: We continue to work on skills to read informational text. This past week we read about Civil Rights issues from the 1950’s and 60’s. Our skills we are working on are analyzing and synthesizing similar text. Vocabulary words will be posted on Monday and encourage your student to complete their No Red Ink assignments before the marking period ends.
8th Grade: Friday is the end of the third quarter so all students will need to update their word counts for our Million Word Challenge. We have started a new chapter in our grammar book and will be learning about adjectives, adverbs, dangling modifiers, prepositions, conjunctions, and interjections. We are also starting a new novel: The Outsiders.
SOCIAL STUDIES
6th Grade: We are discussing how trade affects people in different places. There will be a quiz over Movement Vocabulary list 2 on Wednesday. It's posted in Google classroom.

8th Grade: We are looking into what things caused the Civil War and will be digging deeper into that this next week. We will also be studying how the North and South separated and what war looked like and the strategies involved.
MATH
6th Grade: We finished our lesson on evaluating expressions using powers. Monday we will have a quiz and then we start our lesson on writing expressions using variables. Continue with iReady 45 minutes this week.
7th Grade: 7th graders learned to solve problems using two step equations last week. We will finish this lesson on Wednesday with a quiz. iReady will continue for 45 minutes this week.
8th Grade: This week we have been learning two ways to solve equations algebraically, by substitution or by elimination. We will have a quiz on Tuesday over solving systems of equations algebraically. Continue with iReady 45 minutes this week.
SCIENCE
6th Grade: We will be continuing our discussions of energy this week.
7th Grade: The students are investigating the structure of DNA and how it fits in to growth and development and the inheritance of traits. We will make the connection to how body cells reproduce.
8th Grade: They have finished the Willing to Wait class. Thanks so much to Gayle Kroon of Mom and Tots for coming in and teaching such crucial information to our children. The students will now begin studying how organisms grow and what happens to their cells.
ART
7th Grade: We will be finishing our Picasso BLue period inspired paintings. Glazing our Coil Pots and an opportunity to do a short/quick choose your own project to finish our time together.
PE
8th Grade: Students will finish the marking period with their choice of 3 invasion games, a striking and fielding game, and a new nets game (4-way volleyball). They will also have a health related fitness circuit activity as a final informal fitness assessment.
