Message From Principal Engdall
Greeting Shaw Montessori Community,
We have had an uneventful 1st full week in person and for that we are grateful! Even as restrictions have been lifted in Arizona, our mitigation plan remains the same. I know you will continue to help us keep our children and staff safe and our school open. Please carefully read the information below (I know, it is like reading the safety instructions on a Boeing 747 for the hundredth time) but it is vitally important.
If a student/employee has any of the Covid-19 Symptoms (listed below) they may return to school after staying home if all of the following conditions are met:
1. Student is out for a minimum of 3 full school days and
2. Their symptoms have improved or are improving and
3. They have been fever free for 24 hours without fever reducing medication, unless:
Student has had close contact with a person who has Covid-10 who has tested positive.
Individual must stay home for at least 14 calendar days from day of exposure and given option to work or learn remotely, if feasible. Even if a test is returned negative, an individual may still need to stay home for a full 14 days.
Covid-19 Symptoms:
Fever or chills
Cough
Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
Fatigue
Muscle or body aches
Headache
New loss of taste or smell
Sore throat
Congestion or runny nose
Nausea or vomiting
Diarrhea
Please phone the office at 602-257-3914 when calling in an absence (you may also contact your child’s teacher but they should not be the first point of contact). Be prepared to share the reason for the absence. Nurse Rose will do a telephone wellness check if your child is experiencing any Covid-19 symptoms to assess when the child meets the requirements to return to in person learning. When your child returns to campus, they will visit Nurse Rose BEFORE going to their classroom. We greatly appreciate your support.
All the best,
Principal Engdall

Things are still changing.

Office Announcements
Attendance Changes:
In- Person student attendance expectation:
Child must physically be on campus in class M-F 8:35am until school dismissal.
On-Line student attendance expectation:
Child must be in virtual meeting/classroom M-F all day. (Teachers have 2 times a day that they will take attendance virtually)
If your child is an in-person learner and they are unable to attend for any reason other than Covid related exposure/quarantine they will be marked absent regardless of any online participation on that day. Tardies will remain the same- arrival after 8:35am parent will need to sign student in upon arrival.
*If for ANY REASON your child cannot meet the attendance expectations above please phone the office and let our attendance line know! 602-257-3914 we appreciate the communication our families have directly with teachers about attendance, However you must ALSO NOTIFY THE OFFICE.
TRANSPORTATION:
Busses are still currently routing and bussing both in district and out of district students. Transportation is being offered 5 days a week only. We are asking that bus riders ride every day. Parents can meet their child’s bus at their normal bus stop to pick up. This also alleviates the frustration of additional congestion in our tiny parking lot. We appreciate your understanding for streamlining our dismissal process. If you are in need of transportation, see the attached form and please contact Christina.Girard@phxschools.org for assistance.
Need to pick up a student early?
Early pick-up procedure has changed. If you find you need to pick your child up from school earlier than dismissal time, please arrive in our parking lot and phone the office. (602) 257-3914. We will call your student out of class. While you wait, please sign your student out on the SIGN OUT clipboard located on the podium in front of the office. A staff member will accompany the student to one of the front gates to release your student directly to you. If you do not have a cell phone, please ring the office doorbell and a staff member will assist you.
Open Enrollment Forms:
We still have 27 students who have not returned in an open enrollment form for the 21/22 school year. These were due by March 1, 2021.
Last week, we sent home a copy of the form with in-person learners who still needed to return one, and emailed parents a copy of the form if your student is an online learner. Please return them immediately. If you do not plan to have your student join us for the 21/22 school year, a form is not needed but we ask that you let office staff know your plans so that we can remove the open enrollment flag on your student.
Last Call for Sibling Applications!
Siblings who are 3 or will be turning 3 prior to September 1, 2021 will be offered first choice of enrollment opportunities during our Primary Lottery on April 5. Please fill out and submit a sibling application no later than Friday April 2. Placement will not be guaranteed if applications are submitted late.
Please do not hesitate to call the office with any questions.
