Principal Post
Wow! What a week it was last week with the snow, polar vortex, and school closings. Hopefully all of the nasty winter weather is past us and more spring like weather is right around the corner, keep your fingers crossed!
Congratulations to D13 Spelling Bee champion and DuJardin 5th grader, Sajani Achanta, who will represent D13 at the DuPage County Spelling Bee at Wheaton North High School on February 27th at 6:00 p.m. Sajani outlasted seventy other D13 spellers to take home the championship. Congratulations to the runner up from DuJardin, 4th grader, Veronica Archacki, who went head-to-head with Sajani for 14 rounds before a winner was determined!
Parents, your support is needed to help promote the next District #13 Blood Drive, which is scheduled for Tuesday, February 19tht between 2:00-7:00 pm in the DuJardin gym. Did you know that only 3% of those people eligible and able to donate blood actually do! Let’s help increase this percentage and do what we can to give the gift of life. One donation can save up to three lives. If each of us either donates or finds one person to donate blood we can make a HUGE difference to others. Giving blood is the best FREE gift you can ever give another person. Thanks in advance for your support with this D13 community event. Call the school office, 630-894-9200 to schedule an appointment. Walk-ins are always welcome. Click here for additional information.
Friday, March 1st is Teacher Institute Day. This is a County wide Institute Day and some DuJardin staff members will be attending a variety of workshops with other DuPage educators offered at various locations throughout the county while other staff members will stay back at school to work on Standards Based grading and reporting implementation. Special education staff will be attending sessions offered through the North DuPage Special Education Cooperative (NDSEC) at the Connections Conference which will be hosted at Lake Park High School, West Campus.
Students will not be in attendance on Monday, February 18th for Presidents Day, Friday, March 1st due to Teacher Institute Day or on Monday, March 4th due to the Casimir Pulaski holiday. See the link below for the revised 2018-2019 school calendar that was recently approved by the D13 School Board.
The Illinois Readiness Assessment (IAR) testing is coming for grades 3-5 in both reading and math beginning April 8th. Staff is working very hard preparing the students for these assessments. More information about the exams can be found at https://www.isbe.net/Pages/IAR.aspx.

One Book One School
We enjoyed reading one book as one school, and hope to make it an annual DJ tradition. Thanks for sticking with us through all our days off last week too. I hope you loved Wishtree and the great messages in the book. Our Wishtree in the lobby will be up a little bit longer. If you'd like to write a wish as a family and bring it in to school, Mrs. Novotny will add it to our Wishtree. Write your wish on any paper or piece of fabric and bring it down to the library.
5Essentials Parent Survey - Please take this survey - Your feedback is welcome!
2018-19 Illinois Parent Survey
Dear Parent, The Illinois State Board of Education invites you to participate in a school improvement survey for parents. Please Note: This survey is NOT a component of the 5Essentials Organizing Schools for Improvement Survey. In this survey, you will be asked to provide feedback about your child’s school. Please consider your child’s current experience at school (i.e., 2018-2019 school year). This survey is designed to help school and district leadership improve their understanding of the parent/school relationship.
All responses are completely anonymous. Responses to anonymous surveys cannot be traced back to the respondent. Additionally, your responses will be combined with other parents from your child's school and summarized in a school report to further protect your anonymity. Your participation in this survey is voluntary and you have the right to discontinue participation at any point.
If you have more than one (1) child, you may elect to participate multiple times.
The 5Essentials Parent Survey is now open. Parents are encouraged to complete this survey. Please use the following link to access the parent survey: http://survey.5-essentials.org/illinois/survey/parent/
