Cordata Chronicles Newsletter
May 2022
From the Principals
May is here and we’ve entered the last full month of school for the 2021-22 school year! An exciting month awaits us. This past week (May 2nd - 6th) we’ve been celebrating Staff & Teacher Appreciation Week. We are very fortunate to have such skilled and dedicated teachers at Cordata Elementary! We hope that our students and families had an opportunity to thank these hard-working professionals for all their contributions to our children. A variety of groups including our classified staff, The Cordata Collective and Cornwall Church all chipped in to provide treats and celebrations this week.
Our Cordata Collective (cordatacollectiveteam@gmail.com) held its monthly meeting this past Tuesday, May 3rd. The Cordata Collective is a team of caregivers and staff that meet monthly to support our Cordata students, families and staff. Some exciting actions include sponsoring an artist visit to our primary classrooms, funding our family event coming the evening of Thursday, June 2nd and supporting some culminating activities for our 5th grade students in June. Look for more information coming later this month about our special community celebration coming June 2nd!
Earlier this week we sent out information about classroom placement for the 2022-23 school year. As part of that process we would like to gather family feedback on your child’s interests and needs as we place students in classrooms. Kindergarten through 4th grade families should complete this feedback by Friday, May 13th. Please feel free to reach out to our school office if you have any questions about this feedback form. You can contact us at 360-676-6461.
Additional events this month will include a visit from Lummi Artist Jason LaClair, on May 17th and 18th. He will work with our 1st and 2nd grade students on an art project. On May 24th students will have the chance to participate in a talent show organized by our specialist team, which includes Ms. Jansen-Music, Ms. Greer-PE and Ms. Feemster-Libarary Media Specialist. Monday, May 30th will mark Memorial Day, so there will be no school that day.
We wish you well this May Cordata!
