JHS Student/Family Weekly Update
Week of March 22nd: News, Links & Updates
Dear JUHSD Parents and Guardians,
We continue to work diligently with our union, our Return to School Committee, and our Board of Trustees to determine a date to begin a gradual return to campus this semester. In preparation, we are asking all parents to select the instructional model for their child in ParentVue by 4pm on March 24, 2021.
You have a choice of hybrid or distance learning. All students, regardless of whether they are in hybrid or distance learning, will have the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities in person with parental permission.
Strict safety protocols will be in place, including social distancing, masks at all times except when eating or drinking, and daily health screenings. Students will not congregate, and will be highly encouraged to be tested for COVID-19 frequently, regardless of their vaccination status.
Option 1: Hybrid Instruction (2 days in school and 2 days in Distance Learning)
Students will attend school in person twice a week and participate in the same classes virtually twice a week. Students, even while at school, will still be logging into Zoom to participate in their classes. Teachers will instruct in-person and distance learning students simultaneously.
Option 2: Remain in Distance Learning (4 days in Distance Learning)
Students will continue to engage in fully virtual learning four days a week.
Please note, regardless of which option you choose, you will have another opportunity to determine which instructional model your child participates in, and this will take place approximately four weeks after hybrid instruction begins.
Wednesdays are asynchronous days where students can either attend teacher office hours, small group interventions, or participate in asynchronous learning.

- Pull up ParentVue on a browser. You cannot access this form on the mobile app.
- Log in to your ParentVue account. If you are unable to access your ParentVue account, please email the JUHSD IT department at email@example.com.
- Please click link the links below for instructions on how to select your option:

- Select your Instructional Model preference by 4 PM on March 19. Parents/Guardians who do not submit a response will remain in Distance Learning.

Essay and Visual Arts Scholarships to Raise Awareness of the Armenian Genocide
The California Armenian Legislative Caucus is holding two scholarship contests for the 2021 commemoration of the Armenian Genocide. California high school students in ninth through twelfth grade are invited to participate in an essay contest and/or a visual arts contest to increase greater awareness of the Armenian Genocide. The submission deadline for both contests is Friday, April 9, 2021.
All winners will be awarded scholarships and a trip to Sacramento to be acknowledged at the California Armenian Legislative Caucus’ annual Armenian Advocacy Day during a press conference on April 26, 2021. (Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this may not be an in-person event. Final details will be determined closer to the event date.) Winners will be contacted directly and announced to mainstream and Armenian media by the
California Armenian Legislative Caucus on April 16, 2021. Original artwork will be requested from visual arts applicants if selected as a finalist for possible display in the California State Capitol. Scholarship awards are $1,000 for first place, $750 for second place, and $500 for third place in each contest.

Second Harvest and Pacific Islands Together are partnering with Jefferson High School to offer a drive-thru food bank twice monthly. All families are welcome:
2nd and 4th Saturday of the month from 11-1 Enter from Mission Street In your car. Don’t be surprised to find the line of cars extending up Mission Street to the top of the hill. Food is normally available for families arriving by 11 AM.
Volunteers will come to greet you and register your family. Up to three families can receive food in each car.
As we are approaching the end of the school year, there are some REALLY IMPORTANT DEADLINES that I want to remind you of in terms of yearbook.
Senior Portrait (Submitting a Photo): March 31st
If you have not taken your senior portrait yet, you can still book appointments with photography students and send in a senior portrait by 3/31 at the LATEST!! Here is a link to a Prestige photo studio in San Carlos (Of course, you could choose a different professional company if you would like)
Email me a copy of a senior portrait in a JPEG file format.
Cap and Gown: ORDER ASAP
1. Go to www.highschool.herffjones.com
2. Type in “Jefferson High School” And make sure you choose the one that’s in Daly City
3. Click shop grad products
4. Click shop individual grad products
5. Scroll down to blue cap and gown picture and click it
6. Enter in gender (all students get BLUE), height and weight -> add to cart
7. Go to cart and check out (price should be $0.00) be sure to use promo code “2021grad” at checkout.
8. Enter in graduation YEAR, ADDRESS FORMAL FULL NAME (cap/ gown gets sent to the school but we still need address for checkout)
Senior Baby Ads (Ads in the Yearbook): April 19th
PASS THIS INFO ONTO YOUR PARENTS/GUARDIANS
Senior Baby Ads are a great way to recognize your child for all their hard work that they have done to get to the end of their senior year! You can choose from a 1/2 page or 1/4 page ad to write a personal note and add in pictures of your child! If you would like to purchase a senior baby ad to be in the yearbook, this must be done by 4/19. You can purchase an ad at this website. The price for a 1/4 page ad is $50 and the price for 1/2 page add is $100.
