U.S.A
Guatemalan Government
WHO HAD THE POWER?
The Power was measured in MSU's or Military Strength Units
Guerillas: 200 (Most)
U.S.: 60 (Moderate)
Guerillas: 60 (Moderate)
Guatemalan Gov.: 20 (Minimal)
Peasants: 0 (None)
HOW DID THE POWER SHIFT?
The power shifted allot in the course of the game. On day two one Guerrilla was silenced. On day three, two people were silenced, one from the Government team and myself from the Army and Wealthy team. Also, the peasants gained 50 points from the A/W and the peasants gave all their points to the Guerrillas and the Government gave all there points the Guerrillas. The Guerrillas also sided with Cuba and gained 60 extra points. They lead 200 to 140 and then on day 4 the A/W got 60 points from the U.S. and tied it up. On day 5 they battled to get the advantage and the Guerrillas won and took over the Government. The U.S. didn't approve and they took over Guatemala and gave it to the citizens.
HOW WAS COOPERATION AND CONFLICT SHOWN IN THE GAME?
Cooperation and conflict was shown allot. Like when the Peasants made a deal with the A/W and then they gave all of the points to the Guerrillas. It also became physical and personal with conflict between the Guerrillas and the A/W. It was taken so far at times the teacher had to calm everyone down.
WHAT ROLE DID THE U.S. HAVE IN THE SIMULATION?
The U.S.'s role in the game was to be a moderator and make sure democracy was maintained. If a powerful group overthrew the government without the U.S.'s approval they could attack them and establish a government how they wanted.
WHAT HAPPENS TO A COUNTRY WHEN POWER SHIFTS, IS THE EFFECT POSITIVE OR NEGATIVE?
The power shifting in a country can go either way, negative, positive, or both. The Guerrillas overthrowing could be a dictatorship and that would be negative, or they could overthrow and implement a democracy and that would be positive. Same goes for the Army and Wealthy.
APPLY THE INFO!
Cooperation and conflict similarly could arise in my family between me and my sister or me and my parents. This could have similar outcomes (besides overthrowing of course). Also this could happen in a job in the future. There could be cooperation and conflict between me and my coworkers or me and my boss or upper management.
