ESOL Opportunities
In an effort to meet the very unique needs of these learners, the district has an array of PD opportunities for you!
Consider signing up for a book study........
Or perhaps take a Blended Learning course..........
There is also an ESOL coaching cohort that is personalized to meet the needs of the students in your classroom that focuses on SLO data and growth...........
Our ESOL department will be audited in the Spring. Please be sure you have viewed the ELL Video: http://cloud.swivl.com/v/75f6be2af932f840a4feb4cc04441559
Our responsibilities to these students include:
a. Enroll everyone (age appropriate) who is living in our district regardless of legal status
b. Create a culture of caring that welcomes students and parents to our school community
c. Initially identify using a Home Language Survey (InfoSnap) and assess ELs to determine level
d. Coordinate and conduct Individualized Modification and Accommodation Plan (IMAP) yearly for served students (incorporates both standardized testing and grade/content classroom work)- legally binding
e. Develop and deliver a sound program of instruction based on scientific research (ESOL and content)
f. Communicate and clarify all information relevant to their child’s education with all parents in the language they best understand; Seek parent input and involvement in all facets of school community
g. Analyze and evaluate ESOL program, ESOL teachers and student progress to gauge needs and to maximize learning and to continuously improve instruction and services
The data tells the story! 40% of our ELL students met their target math map goal last year. This was an increase of 4% from 2015. In reading, 46% of these students met their target reading goal. This was a 9% decrease from 2015. Let's work together to differentiate for these students' specialized learning needs!
If you are interested in any of these PD opportunities, please see Christy Morrabal for more information.
REMINDER TO ALL STAFF
Also, please use the breezeway doors when taking students to recess. The art door entrance/exit becomes a distraction to classes due to the noise. Thanks for your help!
Science Lab Space!
We are excited that we have space this year to set up a science lab on the 5th grade hall - J hall.
This is currently being used as ESOL/Resource space so we are making that transition so the space is available to you.
Mr. Emmer is going to share some ideas with us to help make this is a productive space as well.
The idea is that teachers could bring their classes to the space to conduct FOSS kit experiments and demonstrations. It is our hope the Instructional Assistants can assist you with setting up the space for your specific needs.
We will need a lead for the space that can organize a calendar and help keep materials tidy. Anyone interested?
Our plan, tentatively, is that the space is ready for you to relocate FOSS kits by December 12 (and the week of...)
SLO Conferences
Please bring the following to the conference:
Goal indicated on SLO template
Updated data to support goal
Plans if SLO goal needs to be updated/adjusted
