Interview of my mom
What years were you in middle school?
Was in middle school from 1979-1981
What kinds of music, movies and fashion were popular at the time?
She said Music that was popular was rock. Everybody used to listen to: Styxx and Journey. For movies most of them were syfy like E.T., Star Wars and Close Encounters of the Third Kind. For fashion people used to wear Sassoon jeans, feathered hair, and capezios.
What were your favorite activities in middle school? What were your hobbies and interests
Mom: Played soccer, basketball, and softball. Also, loved to read/learn, and play violin.
What job/interests/activities do you have now? Is there a connection between what you liked back then and what you enjoy today?
My Mom Played soccer in middle school-Coaches soccer now
She still loves to reading
She always loved learning new things-Is a doctor were your always learning new things
What was the best part of being in middle school?
My mom said the best part of middle school for her was feeling more independent, making new friends, and liked being part of sports teams.
What was the worst part?
My mom said she felt really awkward, her parents got divorced and she had no one to talk to about the changes in her body.
How would you describe your middle school self?
She described herself as emerging, becoming less shy although still unsure of who she really was, and had mixed feelings.
What advice about growing up would you give to kids my age?
My Mom told me her advice would be listen to your inner desires. Don't let other people influence you, and worry less about being cool more about being kind
What were your favorite subjects? Why?
For this question my mom said she liked english because she loved reading and science because she loved experiments and being able to participate in them.
If you could've change something about your middle school self what would it be?
She said she wished she could've been more comfortable with who she was and didn't let other people influence her.
