Black Language, Literacy, Identity, and Pedagogy
Responsive Teaching Institute at Washtenaw ISD Presents Dr. April Baker-Bell
Join us as Dr. Baker-Bell facilitates an interactive professional learning session connected to responsive literacy instruction and identity, where she addresses the research question: What happens when teachers focus on responsive teaching of literacy in their particular discipline? And what happens in terms of student identity, skills, intellect, and criticality?
The intended audience for this course: literacy coaches, English language arts teachers, school leaders, and literacy advocates. Participants are encouraged to purchase a copy of Dr. Baker-Bell's book, a crucial resource that features a range of multimodal examples and practices through instructional maps, charts, artwork, and stories that reflect the urgent need for antiracist language pedagogies in our current social and political climate.
Questions related to this course should be directed to Dr. Jennifer Banks at jbanks@washisd.net or Melissa Brooks-Yip at mbrooksyip@washisd.net
