Early Learners Highlights!
March 3, 2023
Dear Early Learners Families,
Our Early Learners have done an amazing job engaging in topics about African American history. We are very excited to begin our travel unit next week! We can’t wait to learn about the exciting things to do at their destination!!
As a reminder, there is no school on Monday. Enjoy the extended weekend!
Stay warm and take care,
Marcia
WHAT'S HAPPENING IN EARLY LEARNERS?
This week our Early Learners wrapped up our Black History Month Unit. Students explored topics such as slavery, segregation, and civil rights. Students jumped at the opportunity to ask some higher-level thinking questions as they continued to want to further their knowledge about the past. We learned about historical figures past and present who made an impact on African American history. We learned about different inventors, musicians, poets, government figures, athletes, and trailblazers from the past. We used the Dream Big, Little One Series to gain more knowledge as well as other nonfiction texts. We will continue to learn about and explore people of color as the school year continues.
Next up we will start our Travel Unit. All classes will vote on a place to “visit” before we head into Spring Break. More to come on where we will be exploring, but it is a great time to learn vocabulary, procedures, and expectations as many of our students have a better understanding of what it means to go on vacation and what they can expect.
SPEECH WITH MISS NATHANSON
This week in speech group we read There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow. As we read the story, the students got to "feed" the cold lady the items she was eating in the book. After we finished the story, the students practiced sequencing by putting the items she ate in the correct order. They did a great job remembering what came first, second, third, etc. They had a lot of fun with this story!
