2018 Outstanding Learning Practices Award
Mangai Neelavannan & Anderson Middle School, Martin County School District
Our 2018 award winners developed a program titled Curriculum Mapping and Design to Eliminate Achievement and Opportunity Gaps, which is a multiyear endeavor that began with math curriculum mapping and grew to include science and ELA. Mrs. Neelavannan recently shared her learning beyond Florida by co-presenting at the Learning Forward conference in Dallas in December with colleagues April Strong and Jennifer Chevalier: “The Power of Video Reflection and Collaborative Feedback”. Mangai is currently having the time of her life designing and delivering gamified professional development approaches, utilizing the Escape room design, to meet the needs of all learners! Congratulations, Mangai Neelavannan!
2018 Distinguished Service Award
Eileen McDaniel
Greetings to all!
As you have heard, my 15-year tenure at the Florida Department of Education has ended, but my zeal, enthusiasm and energy for ensuring that every student has a teacher and school leader that is as good as, or better than, the teachers and leaders each of us had remains. I am eternally grateful and humbled by the many opportunities that I have been afforded in my 40+ years as a Florida educator (teacher, principal, district and state leader). I have been inspired by so many dedicated, brilliant, hard-working individuals in both our school districts and our higher education institutions who seek the same goals as I do, i.e., to ensure that each and every one of our students is successful and safe and that together we can address the equity issues that face all of our schools throughout Florida. Please stay in touch and feel free to reach out to me at emcdanie49@gmail.com.
Sincerely,
Eileen
