Field Flash
January 7, 2022
Dear Field Parents and Guardians,
Happy New Year! While it has been so wonderful to see our students again this week, we know this has been a tough week as we return from winter break and we, as a country, are seeing a COVID-19 surge. I'd like to begin with a few very important reminders:
- Please keep all unvaccinated siblings home if anyone in the household displays symptoms. We really need your cooperation with this now more than ever.
- If your vaccinated child has symptoms, please keep them home.
- If you are awaiting test results, please stay home. This helps to keep others safe.
- If your child is fully vaccinated, please upload his or her card into PowerSchool. As a reminder, fully vaccinated students who are close contacts with a positive remain in school and do not need to quarantine (unless symptoms would develop).
- Continue to wear a mask when you are in crowded spaces.
We are certainly hopeful that this surge will be behind us soon; in the meantime, we'd like to keep as many of our students here in-person at Field as possible. This is also a good time for me to give a big thank you to our nurse Mrs. Julie Rudd. She's been working countless hours this week to support our students.
A few additional important reminders:
- Colder Weather: Now that winter weather is really here, please make sure that your child is dressing to be outdoors for recess. We instruct students to wear their hats, gloves, mittens, winter coats, etc. Please be sure your child is dressed for outdoor recess. In addition, please begin to think about snow gear (pants, boots). When we have snow, students continue to go outside for recess but can only play on the snow when dressed in pants/boots. As always, label items, please!
- CARES tickets: as part of our building-wise positive behavior system, students can earn CARES tickets. Each Friday, each classroom selects a winning ticket and that student comes down to the office for a small prize. We are so proud of our students and their excellent respectful and responsible behavior!
- Cell phones and Smart Watches: please note that while students are permitted to have cell phones and/or Smart watches in school, they should be powered off and kept in their lockers during the school day. These items should not be used during the school day (including on the bus to and from school). You can read more about this in our Student-Parent Handbook on page 68. Thank you!
A few additional COVID-19 related items:
- Uploading Vaccination Cards
A reminder to parents: if your child has received both doses of the COVID-19 vaccine you can upload their vaccination card to The D64 Powerschool Parent Portal. Please wait to upload until two weeks after their second dose, when they are considered fully vaccinated. This will be used for contact tracing and subsequent quarantining decisions and the information will remain confidential.
How to upload your child's card:
- Go to the D64 Powerschool Parent Portal and login with your credentials (same as when you registered)
- Click on your student's name in the tabs across the top of the screen
- Click on the FORMS icon on the left navigation menu
- Click on the COVID-19 Vaccination Information form and fill in the required information.
- Weekly Testing
- Today was the deadline for changing your options for weekly testing and/or test-to-stay. As a reminder, any student can participate in the weekly testing while test-to-stay is for unvaccinated students.
I hope you have a safe and healthy weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Courtney Goodman
Principal
Change to Dismissal Location for First Graders
In order to alleviate some crowding in the hallways and the current exit door, beginning Monday, January 3rd, our first graders will dismiss through Door #1 - our Main Entrance door on Wisner. Students will follow the same procedures of being walked to the exit by their teacher, making eye contact with their grown-ups, and the teacher waving/releasing each student to that grown-up. At this time, our morning arrival location will remain the same, though we may adjust that at a later point once construction begins in the spring. Thank you for your flexibility in this dismissal adjustment.

As the weather gets colder, Field School Green Team & Scouts would like to remind you to not idle (let your car's engine run while parked) during pick up and drop off. Turn the Key and be Idle Free- It's better for your car/gas bill, the students' health, and our environment. Check out the Scout's video for more information.
YEARBOOK: COVER CONTEST
Attention all FIELD students, we will again be conducting a yearbook cover contest. The book theme this year will be “Year of Champions”
For each yearbook cover submission, please ensure
1. The design is placed on a 8.5 x 11 sheet
2. Free hand original art is preferred (vs. digital art)
3. The cover must have “Field School 2021-2022” on it
4. Students can hand their single submission into their teacher in the classroom, at the front office or electronically to fieldschoolyearbook@gmail.com
5. DEADLINE = Friday Jan 15th
We ask the students be inspired to creatively express what a champion means to them, and/or specify a local, regional, national or international figure that emulates the righteous behavior of a CHAMPION! We cannot wait to see all these artful submissions come through. As with years past, we will have (1) winner for the front cover, (1) winner for the back cover, and (1) winner from each grade level. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out.
Dates to Remember
