PSAT8/9 on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 for 8th grade students
Dear Parents/Guardians of 8th Grade Students:
Our school will administer the PSAT8/9 on Wednesday, October 16, 2019 for 8th grade students. The PSAT 8/9 is the first test in the SAT Suite of Assessments. It tests the same skills and knowledge as the SAT. PSAT8/9 helps students determine what they need to work on most so that they are ready for college. PSAT8/9 helps students:
1. Recognize strengths. A personalized PSAT 8/9 score report will include detailed information about your child’s strengths and areas for growth. It helps students lean into areas they’re good at and identify places where they need to improve to be ready for college.
2. Explore future careers. Students can explore college majors and careers that align with their personal interests with Roadmap to Careers, a unique online tool created by Roadtrip Nation and the College Board. The tool connects students to potential careers based on the things they love, showing where they can lead.
3. Choose high school courses. Knowing where they excel and what skills they should work on can help them choose other 9th- and 10th- grade classes. In addition, student score reports will suggest AP® courses that are a great match for them. AP can give your child an edge in the admission process and allows them to earn college credit while in high school, which could save time and money in college.
Practice exams and sample questions are available online at College Board web site: https://collegereadiness.collegeboard.org/psat-8-9
After receiving PSAT8/9 test scores students can find appropriate interactive math practice resources on Khan Academy https://cdn.kastatic.org/KA-share/PSAT89+Resources+on+KA.pdf.
Please encourage your child to have a restful night sleep and a healthy breakfast before testing. Students are expected to arrive school on time no later than 7:30 am.
All electronic devices cell phones, smart watches, tablets, audio players/recorders are prohibited during testing. Please remind your child turn it off and leave it in the locker or give it to the teacher before testing. The student will be dismissed immediately and scores will be cancelled, if cell phone is used or it makes noises even during breaks.
If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Suslu at dsuslu@harmonytx.org
Thank you for your ongoing support!

Attendance Matters at HST!
Student SUCCESS is what we are about at Harmony School of Technology! Research shows that students who attend school regularly are more successful in the classroom. Establishing good attendance habits with children makes a positive IMPACT in their progress and achievement in school. We appreciate your partnership in helping us help your child reach his or her fullest potential. The state compulsory attendance law requires that the student between the ages of 6 to 19 must attend school and school required tutorial sessions unless the student is otherwise legally exempted or excused. If your student is absent please email our Attendance Clerk, Ms. Avelar at cavelar@harmonytx.org Please turn any official notes (for example; doctor, dentist, counselor note) in at the FRONT OFFICE within 3 days of an absence.
Thank you for all that you do!

Harmony Public Schools - Alternate Meals Policy
Nutritious meals are available daily for a price of $1.75 for breakfast, $3.00 for lunch, and $0.50 for a la carte milk. Each student is provided a lunch account on to which money may be deposited. Households are also encouraged to create an account in School Café (www.schoolcafe.com) From here, parents may apply for free or reduced price meals, check account balances, make meal payments, set up automatic alerts, and set up automatic payments. If you need your child’s ID number, please call the school and ask one of the Front Office personnel. Payments may also be made in the Building A, Main Front Office during regular business hours of 7:45 am to 2:15 pm using a credit card, check, or money order. Should a student’s meal account balance fall below $0, he /she will be allowed to charge up to our DISTRICT LIMIT of $ -10. Once the negative meal account balance limit is reached, the student will receive an alternate meal. Alternate meals consist of cereal, fruit, and milk for breakfast; and for lunch, a sandwich, vegetable, and milk. If a student is later approved for free meals, they will begin receiving meals immediately. However, the household is still responsible for paying the negative account balance. For more information regarding the meal charge policy, please visit our website at: https://hsthouston.harmonytx.org/
ATTENTION: Students are not allowed to purchase a la carte items if their account has a $0 or negative balance. If they are purchasing a milk, we will allow them one charge as a courtesy. The student and parent will be informed that there must be funds in the meal account for a la carte purchases. The next attempt to purchase a la carte items will be denied until the account shows a positive balance.
The district charge limit applies to reimbursable meals only and not a la carte purchases.
Meal Payments
Online: Log in to your School Café account and make a payment. Please be advised that parents are charged a 5% convenience fee for making a payment through School Cafe. The minimum payment is $20.
At school: Bring a check, credit/debit card, or money order to Building A Main Front Office. The payment will be logged and a receipt will be given to the person making the payment. It can take up to 3 days from the date the front desk takes the payment to the account reflecting that payment.
