January 11, 2016
Not surprisingly, many bad behaviors continued after BEST training. No one expected 440 students to magically change from a 90 minute review. The way we can really support kids making good choices is to help them reflect on it consistently. Please plan a few times this week to check in with you class about behaviors in the areas we covered. Ask them where they are being successful and where they need to improve. Ask them what it will take to improve. Most of all, congratulate them for their successes.
I wanted to make sure to thank our BEST team. Thank you teachers Karen, Suzanne, and Signe and parents Kathy Pine and Kourtney Bauer. This committee easily doubled its anticipated time commitment, and they rose to the challenge. I think our work in implementing BEST has been stellar due to the dedication of this team. In addition to being good readers and mathematicians, it is rewarding help kids become good people. Thank you all.

Monday is the day! Our staff meeting will take place at Sebastiani Theater to watch the documentary about education called Most Likely to Succeed.
Classified Staff: We would love to have you join us for the movie. While this is on a voluntary basis, please consider joining us if you would like to see a great movie about education and the future. The snack bar will be open! Here is a link to the film trailer: https://vimeo.com/122502930 The movie starts promptly at 3:30 and ends at 5:00.
Are you interested in trying out the math version of the STAR assessment? Karen Taggesell has set up a trial with our account for the next 60 days. If you a 2nd-5th grade teacher, give it a try and see what you think. You access it just like you do the STAR reading.
Our new preschool has opened. It is located in Room 42. Please swing by and say hello to the staff there. Kerry Knight is the site supervisor. As time goes on, the preschool will become more integrated into out school. Please help them feel welcome.
