UNCA Education Day is tomorrow!

We are excited that we met our goal and we get to have a fun and educational day on the UNCA campus tomorrow! Don't forget to send in a signed permission slip if you haven't aleady! If you signed up to have your child bring a lunch from home, please don't forget it! Students should NOT bring electronic devices on the field trip.

A PTO meeting will be held at Weaverville Elementary on Tuesday, December 5 at 8:15 AM. Please join us!

Living the Habits at Home

This year a focus is to recognize our students for using the 7 habits at home! Thank you to everyone who participated in our Family Game Night Challenge on Facebook! We will hold the drawing for the winners at school this week on the live announcements! The winning family will receive a gift card that they can use to purchase a new family game to play!

We also have a submission form that you can complete to tell us what your child does to live the habits outside of school. Here is that link: http://www.jotform.us/form/61263570227149

Last week our Family Involvement Team sent out a newsletter with tips for parents but also a 'Be a Leader' card that you can use to record how your child is a leader at home. Please take a moment to fill this out! We want to display all of these in our hallways!

NC School Report Cards

We are excited that the state has released information regarding our school performance for the 2016-2017 School Year! We are pleased that our school Exceeded Growth and earned a School Performance Grade of a 'B'. The full school report card will be released from the state on December 5th. We will send home a copy on Wednesday, December 6th so please check your child's bookbag.

The School Report Card is a great resource to check out year to year. Whether you are looking for information about student achievement, class size, school safety, school technology, or teacher quality the go to site is: North Carolina School Report Cards. This website, managed by the NC Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI), is home to all types of education data, organized in an easy-to-use format and available at the school, district and state levels.

Ready Rosie is coming!

ReadyRosie is an early education tool that helps families, schools and communities across the nation deepen and scale their family engagement efforts. Our tools leverage the power of video modeling, family workshops, professional development opportunities, and mobile technology to build powerful partnerships between families and educators resulting in Ready Families, Ready Educators, Ready Children.

Looking back and giving thanks!

In early November, volunteers from Fellowship Asheville worked to clean up the Butterfly Garden at Weaverville Elementary as part of their 'Serve Asheville' event. Can you believe these before and after photos? What a difference! Thank you for taking time to show love to our school! We appreciate everyone who participated in this event!

Reminders about important links and information

Check out the links below to learn more about how to stay engaged and involved in our school!

Volunteer Link - Click here to complete the required procedures to volunteer in our school on a consistent basis. We LOVE volunteers!

Parent Portal Link - This link is temporarily disabled but this is where you can create an account to check in on your child's grades. Parents are encouraged to sign up for an account! Remember that in 2nd grade we only use this system for report card grades but starting in 3rd grade, teachers enter grades either weekly or bi-weekly. In order to create an account you need an information sheet from Mrs. Griffee in the main office. She cannot fax it, email it or mail it.

Contact Manager Link - This link will allow you to choose how you want to be contacted through our SchoolMessenger phone and email system. Please make sure your phone numbers are updated in this system. We also ask that you provide an email address if you have one. The information that you record here is how you will be contacted if we have a change in the school schedule due to weather and/or how you will be contacted if we have an emergency. Please keep this information current!

School Nutrition Link - Click here to read about the School Nutrition program and how to set up an online lunch payment. Remember that we provide breakfast free of charge for all students. If your family needs some support, you are HIGHLY encouraged to click this link to fill our our Free/Reduced Lunch Form - FRL Form. Our Title 1 funding is based on our percentage of students on Free or Reduced Lunch so we WANT families to complete an application. The process is completely confidential. We will also send home hard copies of the application form at the beginning of school. FAMILIES WHO QUALIFY MUST FILL OUT THE FORM EVERY YEAR IN ORDER TO CONTINUE TO RECEIVE FREE OR REDUCED LUNCH.

Our PTO is awesome and they do so much for our staff and students! Thank you!
