Year 5 Weekly Update

Week 20

This week the children went on their visit to the Water Resource Centre in Mongkok. They enjoyed their experience and learned all about water supply in Hong Kong as well as the latest government initiatives to reduce water usage.

Please remind your child(ren) to bring in their permission slips for our theatre trip to see Fantastic Mr Fox on February 5th.

This week the children started our new unit on Fractions, Decimals and Percentages in our flexible number groups. If you have time, please discuss how we use fractions in everyday life.

Next week we will be finishing up our strand maths unit on measurement, capacity and volume. The children enjoyed their investigations estimating, comparing and applying their understanding of units of measurement.


Next week is our final week of the water unit. The children will be consolidating their learning by creating an independent report on their inquiry questions and reflecting on the unit.

Homework this week

As your children are now in the upper school, they are expected to be completing 30-45 minutes of homework each night. This will be made up of: approx 15-20 minutes reading with an adult, 10-15 spelling work, and their weekly assigned task.
