What's happening at Dawson this week beginning 04/26/2020
Learning Packets Now Mailed to Families!
AISD will mail a learning packet to families who qualify for free/reduced lunch. If your family does not qualify, and you would still like a learning packet for your child, here is the link to request a learning packet: https://app.smartsheet.com/b/form/f09106cfbfa241a09e6201b9d60065f2
It is Registration Time!
Please register your child for the upcoming school year. Do you need some help with online registration? Please call the front office and leave us a message with your name and the best contact number. One of our office staff will call you back and assist you with your registration needs.
Please consider submitting a Dolphin Ticket for your child or another family member. Students, you could submit a Dolphin Ticket for a family member, too!
Dolphin Tickets will be read each Friday in Mrs. Jedele's video message. They will also be posted on our school website.
Here's the link to submit a Dolphin Ticket: Dolphin Tickets
This week, students who receive a Dolphin Ticket will have a chance to have a throw in our Pie in the Face activity on Friday!
Pie in the Face on Friday at 4:00 p.m. on the Dawson Facebook page
Pie in the Face!
If you earn a Dolphin Ticket this week, you will be able to "throw" a pie at Mrs. Jedele!
Since we are all at our homes, Mrs. Jedele's family - Kevin, Jaxon, and Clive - will throw the pies for you. You'll even get to choose who does the throwing for you!
Dolphin Tickets must be submitted by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 30, so we can make sure we have enough whipped cream for the pies.
Tune in to the Dawson Facebook page at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, May 1 for all the fun!

Celebrate Children’s Day with a Poem on Your Porch!
El día de los Niños/El día de los Libros (Children's Day/Book Day), commonly known as just "Día," is a celebration every day of children, families, and reading that culminates every year on April 30th. The celebration emphasizes the importance of literacy for children of all linguistic and cultural backgrounds, and this year, we’re joining forces with poetry appreciation! We're celebrating from our homes with a Poem on Your Porch this Thursday, April 30th.
Find a favorite poem or write your own and share it with your communities! Here are some ideas on how you can share your poem with others:
write your poem in LARGE letters on a big piece of paper & hang it on your front door
copy your poem five times and tape them up on street sign poles, mailboxes, or other places around your neighborhood
copy your poem five times and leave them in front of five neighbors' doors
write your poem LARGE in sidewalk chalk in front of your house or apartment
call or text a few friends or family members to share your poem
hang out on your porch and recite your poem (from a safe distance) to neighbors walking by
Whatever you do, please take a picture and post it on our Dawson Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/Dawson78704/ on Thursday. We can’t wait to celebrate and see what you share!
Also, now that student accounts at the Austin Public Library can be set up during school registration, hundreds of Dolphins received a library card this year! If you haven’t received your card or lost it, APL is re-sending the APL Student Card number (user ID) and password (PIN) to the email address listed on the account so students can take advantage of their e-book collection and online learning resources. If you have any questions, you can ask APL here: https://bit.ly/2UriuwX or contact me @firstname.lastname@example.org.
Finally, don't forget to visit the Dawson Virtual Library (https://www.smore.com/bm9ra) for log-ins to free virtual libraries and other educational resources, as well as the "Dawson Elementary Library" tile on BLEND when you log into the student portal for read-alouds, lessons, and other library activities!
