HOLY ROSARY NEWSLETTER
Term 3 Week 8 September 13 2019
Dear Parents and Guardians
What a carnival! Children giving it their all, doing their very best! Well done Rob Flexman for your organisation of this spectacular event! Thank you to the many spectators and also the parents who helped out. Without you, a carnival like this doesn’t happen. What a fantastic day.
Likewise the Disco last Friday. This was run by the Year Six parents. This would not have eventuated without the support of the parents involved. Thank you very much for making this event happen!
Our final assembly for 2019 is on next week, presented by Year One Dominic. Our Drumbeat group will be playing before the assembly, welcoming you in. We look forward to seeing you. You are also very welcome to join in at the Lapathon in the afternoon. This is a big one for the P&F so your support counts for a lot.
Have a great weekend.

✔️Situated within the school setting, making transiting to Kindergarten smoother
DID YOU KNOW?
✔️ Children can begin Pre-Kindy when they turn three years old
✔️You can choose up to three days: Tuesday to Friday
✔️ You can choose half day (9am to 12.30pm) or full school day (to 3pm)
BOOK A VISIT – WE WOULD LOVE TO SHOW YOU AROUND!
KINDY ⏰ THREE FULL DAYS IN 2020 ⏰
Kindergarten times in 2020 are changing to three full days: 9am to 3pm on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The decision has been based on feedback from parents:
👉Their child enjoys Kindy and wishes to remain for the full day on Thursdays.
👉Having different pick-up times can be confusing for some Kindy children.
👉For families with other, older children it is more convenient to have one pick-up on a Thursday.
👉 With the rise in maternal employment, the full day on Thursday offers greater work opportunity.

MERIT AWARD RECIPIENTS - ASSEMBLY FRIDAY 20 SEPTEMBER
We would like to inform you that there has been a confirmed case of chicken pox in the school; therefore we would like to take this opportunity to remind you of the procedure for when to keep your child at home and when it is appropriate to send them back to school, should your child develop the symptoms of chicken pox.
Chicken pox is a mild and common childhood illness caused by a virus called varicella zoster. It is most common in children under the age of 10 and is contagious. The incubation period is approximately 21 days and the person is contagious from 1 to 2 days before the spots appear until the spots have crusted over (usually 5-6 days after the spots appear).
Groups of people that are most at risk of serious problems if they catch chicken pox are newborn babies, pregnant women and those with a weakened immune system; therefore it is important, if your child has chicken pox, to keep them at home while they are contagious.
Our school policy states that if a child is suspected of having chicken pox, parents will be contacted immediately and asked to collect their child from school. All children should remain at home until all chicken pox spots have crusted over to avoid further spread of the illness.
Should any child return to school before this time, parents will be contacted and asked to collect them and take them back home.
We appreciate your understanding on this and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us.
NIGHT OF THE NOTABLES
Night of the Notables is one of our well known and much anticipated upper primary experiences. The Year 5 children have been very busy this term planning, researching, writing and practising their notable speeches. Everyone had a go – we are so proud of them!
ELDERS AND ARTEFACTS
Year 1 invited their Elders to school to share some ‘artefacts’ from their lives. Imagine our surprise! Fixing a shoe with a hammer and anvil; or a big, heavy phone with the handset on a cord and holes for your fingers to dial the number! It was fascinating and fun, and we so enjoyed the presence of our special visitors.
Students Not Returning in 2020
In accordance with the enrolment policy, a term’s notice is required when withdrawing students from the school. For the purposes of future planning, we need to be aware of students who will not be returning in 2020. Please complete and return the form below if your child/children will NOT be returning to Holy Rosary next year. You do not need to complete a form if your child is currently in Year Six.
HOLY ROSARY COMMUNITY NEWS
Outgoing P&F Vice-President
THANK YOU, MEGAN
We thank Megan Boekhoorn for her enormous contribution to the P&F over the past three years. Megan is a hands-on person and amazing organiser! Be it the Bake Sale, Lapathon, Bingo, Disco, asking for prize donations – she’s onto it! Megan organised the school Art Expo which raised money and showcased the creative talents of Holy Rosary children and their teachers.
Megan: Why did you join the P&F and what have you got out of it?
I have always enjoyed being part of creating the extras for our kids and parents at school. I've gotten to know people from other year groups that I may not normally have met. It has been really rewarding being able to help create fun events that bring the school community together.
