Principal's Update

May 2021

From the Desk of Mr. Howl

Hooray! When we began this school year I would have never thought that we would get to this point and have been able to stay in school for the entire year. We are very proud of our teachers, parents, and support staff that worked so hard to ensure we had a safe and clean environment for our students to work and play. Weatherford is one of the few schools in the state that were able to stay open for the entire year.

As I write this column today we have twelve more days of school and many fun and educational activities planned. It is still important for all students to remain engaged and finish the year strong. It has been a great year and we are so thankful that we were able to have our students together and to do life together.

The shared experiences that we have had over the past two years with East and West being a combined school have been great. We have loved seeing the different age groups playing, learning, and interacting together. It has been an incredibly smooth transition and much of the credit for that goes to West Elementary Principal Robyn Randol. I mention this because I have a sad heart in announcing that Ms. Randol will not be with us next year. She has been a mentor and friend and I value the time that we have shared together over the past two years. As she begins a new adventure in her life I want us all to celebrate her success and make sure that she understands how much we appreciate her dedication to her students and to her teachers and staff. She will be greatly missed but Southwestern Oklahoma State University is getting a fantastic new instructor and generations of future teachers will benefit from her knowledge.

May 3rd-7th is Teacher Appreciation Week. Our teachers are the true MVPs. This year has had many struggles but our teachers have handled them so well! They have worked many hours learning new things, taking care of students in and out of the classroom, and educating our children while providing lots of grace. Thank you teachers for a job well done.

As the year wraps up, let’s remember to take care of ourselves. Take breaks, get rest, eat well, exercise, and try to have fun! This chart says teachers, but it could apply to parents also. Summer is almost here!
