Student Character Recognition
Along with Belmont Ridge’s Positivity Project and PBIS Program, on Friday we began recognizing students for their outstanding character and citizenship. We invited sixty students recognized by their teachers to the cafeteria during Advisory for a sweet treat and some Belmont Ridge swag. Our first event was a great success and we will continue to recognize new students each month. Please contact your grade level dean or counselor if you have further questions.
Veterans Day - Salute to our Veterans
On Monday, November 11th, we will celebrate Veterans Day with a Salute to Our Veterans event. Thank you to all who serve or have served. We are eagerly looking forward to this event. Thank you, Mr. McKenzie, for organizing this opportunity.
Substance Use Awareness Presentations- ALL Grades
- Substance Use Awareness Presentations will be offered in all grade levels (6th, 7th, and 8th) classrooms during the last weeks of October and throughout November and December.
- Sixth-grade students will also take part in DARE education.
- In these presentations, information about commonly abused substances (to include vaping) will be provided and the dangers of substance use will be discussed. Please review the recent report from the FDA below. Nationwide, the use of e-cigarettes has increased 48% for middle schoolers between 2017 -2018 and 78% for high schoolers during this time.
- Common myths that are associated with substance use will also be addressed.
- Students will receive education about the disease of addiction and the symptoms and stages that are associated with substance abuse.
- The presentation will conclude with a discussion of healthy coping skills/alternatives and how to obtain help and school resources that are available.
- Please contact your child's counselor or our student assistance specialist Kim Hager at kim.hager@lcps.org if you have any questions or do not want your child to participate in these grade-level presentations.
The Positivity Project
Please see the document below for this week's character trait --> Perspective
Belmont Ridge will again partner with the Positivity Project to foster character building and social-emotional learning.
The Positivity Project is thinking big. We know that powerful aspects of the civilizing process, like empathy, are in retreat. Yet, we believe that armed with a deeper understanding of character and an #OtherPeopleMatter Mindset, together, we will create citizens and leaders who will enhance our communities and country.
