Math
In addition to reviewing the differences between volume, area and perimeter we also began working on recognizing units of measure. Students were able to convert inches to yards. We also looked at liquid measurements, including; cups, pints, quarts and gallons. These would be great items to review.
Below is a link to Mrs. Johnson's webpage which is a great tool for students to use at home. Included are some online math drills for students to practice their familiarity with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.

English
Students reviewed finding the main idea of a passage by itentifying key details in the text. We learned how to make a key idea word map to obtain important information. Students were then able to see the differences in their answers using this strategy in their learning.
Before giving the students their 4th quarter CSA (Common Summative Assessment) we analized how they performed on their previous CSA. After students saw how these questions broke down into learning standards we discussed goals that they could make to help them with their next CSA. We also gave the students another incentive. If they were able to show us a sufficient understanding of the material they would not be required to take the post test. Across the board I saw a greater amount of focus then I have seen before.
Social Studies
The topics given were;
- The Missouri Compromise of 1820
- The Fugitive Slave Act of 1850
- The Compromise of 1850
- The 3/5th's Compromise
- The Kansas-Nebraska Act
- Bleeding Kansas
As the students listened to their peers presentations they took notes on key information. So be sure to quiz them over the weekend!
Science
We watched a Bill Nye video as a teaser for the human body! We covered topics such as; heart, circulation, digestion and resperation.
Bring Your Own Device Policy At Liberty Oaks Elementary
At Liberty Oaks we are excited about integrating technology into the learning environment. As a team we met to outline some technology guidelines and procedures should your student want to bring in technology devices from home. It is not required to bring technology from home, but many students want the ability to do so.
1. Students in grades 1-5 may bring in a tablet, iPad, eReaders, iPod, etc. to read on during appropriate times as directed by the classroom teacher. Please ensure devices are clearly labeled with the student’s name.
2. If material, apps, etc. are inappropriate for school use, it must be removed before the device is allowed to be brought from home. (This would include apps, books, pictures, and/or music).
3. Students will be responsible for their device during the school day. Students will have a designated area to keep their device and use only during designated times as directed by the classroom teacher. The school will not be responsible for lost, stolen, or broken devices during the day.
4. Students will receive one warning regarding inappropriate use of device. Parents will be notified of the warning. If after one warning, another incident of inappropriate use occurs, the classroom teacher will notify the parents of the student’s ineligibility to bring their personal device to school for the remainder of the school year.
