What's Splashing
Burlington County Special Services School District
January 2017
I would just like to start this off by wishing everyone a very happy new year! Being that it is a new year, new goals are going to start taking effect. As mentioned in last month's news letter my two main goals are to learn the skill of treading as well as builiding a higer endurance level by opening up the middle section so students have a further distance to swim.
Well it is never to early in the new year to start implenting goals. In the first few weeks back to swim the skill of treading has been introuduced. When a new skill is introduced, the first thing that is focused on is the safety component of that skill. As the teacher, I will explain as well as prompt students to figure out why the skill is safe and important to learn. As this is a skill that take much practice, students are putting in their best effort! Swimming is a bunch of blocks that build off of previous skills learned. Learning this skill is the beginning into opening up the middle section of the pool. Students need to learn how to be safe in water where they cannnot touch the bottom. I am looking forward to the development of treading to a level of profiency.
